These mushrooms looked better than they tasted.
I was happy to spot these mushrooms growing my yard. I photographed these two and made sure that they were not poisonous. I then picked and cooked them. Big disappointment! They had no texture when cooked "mushy" and zero taste. The good news is that it was few days ago and I'm still alive.
You are braver than I! Morels are tje only eild ones I eat because they are so easy to identify.
You're supposed to know which shrooms TO pick! Sounds like you were unsure on these ones. Back away slowly... that's my advice.

I moved from Northern Virginia to South West Pennsylvania a few years ago. I found a good place near the Application Trail in VA that had tons of Morels. I hear stories how people pick buckets full of morels. They keep the locations secret. I have not found one since I moved to PA.
BTW, the way I discovered where to pick them in VA is that one day when I was hiking the AT I spotted two old man with burlap bags that were stuffed full. I called out to them and asked if they were having luck finding morels. They answered no "We have not found any." It was an obvious lie.
I pulled out my hiker's GPS and entered a waymark and named it "morels." I returned after the next heavy rain and found plenty.
I wish some old timer in PA would clue me in.

It had a slight resemblance to the parasol mushroom (Macrolepiota procera or Lepiota procera), which are very good. But I knew it was not. I think it was a straw mushroom. I did many tests to identify it as non-poisonous
before I tested it on the cat. That does not mean it will taste good.

The nice thing about photographing mushrooms is that they are patient.
Hi All,

SOME ONLY ONCE!!!
I think we all know why you don't own a cat any longer!!!

Poor cat!
