First I want to thank everyone here who helped me earlier in the year when I was looking for a camera and/or lens for a trip to Alaska. The discussion was a great help. I ended up testing the Sony RX10 M4, sure that I would find the photos too soft because of the 1 inch sensor. But, in fact, I was blown away by the test photos I took and by the reach. (I could see birds! Far away in trees! :) ) That was the camera I took to Alaska. I've had an "interesting" year in the Chinese curse sense, so haven't done more than glance at my Alaska photos, but was pleased overall with the camera and its performance. I hope to post a couple here down the road.

Since my Adobe PS CS6 doesn't support the RX10, I downloaded Capture One Express and have been using it. I love the ease of photo editing with it, but find the cataloging and management system hard to understand and not at all intuitive. I'm debating whether or to buy the Capture One Pro Eleven for Sony as the price is going to go up (to what, I don't know) on Sept 25th. Or whether to bite the bullet and get Adobe CC. Either way, I need to figure out how to export my MTS videos as my Express program doesn't do that. Does anyone here use the Pro version and, if so, will it do video conversion or do I need to get another program for that?

I've enclosed a photo taken with the RX10 last May when we had a storm with incredible light.

Upload the picture again and check "store original". Otherwise a large picture is scrunched down to 600 pixels across. Otherwise unless you post a small picture you will lose quality.

C1 does not work on video files - either editing or exporting. You can download Sony's free Action Cam software for the RX10M4.

I use Photoshop and Lightroom Classic CC together with C1 Pro Sony. LR to import and catalog, C1 for all still image editing. I have not explored the video editing capability of the RX10M4 yet.

I use Capture One Pro Sony - it's worth every penny. But I don't use it for file management. I, like yourself, find the "catalog"

I purchased the Sony RX10 IV in late July. I love it. I use the Adobe plan, Adobe Photoshop CC 2018 & Adobe LR Classic CC. For a simple viewer and basic editing, you can download (free) FastStone. It recognizes the new Sony files.

Gene, thanks! Your Rx10 photos over on Flickr helped me decide to give the M4 a try!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has issues with Capture One's cataloging system. I do love their editing software though. I may have to bite the bullet and go to LR, but (sigh) that's another learning curve.

As far as I can tell, having upgraded from free-for-Sony CaptureOne Express to the Pro version, the catalog features are not significantly different, if at all. What I do now have is what they call Sessions. That's not a catalog but a way to have a mini-catalog for each bunch of pics at your discretion. I prefer that immensely to a global catalog like LR. I have lots of reasons for that but I'm trying to just answer your question about upgrading.

If you are not interested in Sessions it is probably not worth the small upgrade price. But, as I recall, there is a page on the PhaseOne site that compares the versions so you can examine all the differences before spending anything.

I also use the RX10m4 (and the a6500).
