Probably a good thing, to convert your picture to B&W because the nice red lighthouse has turned PINK. It was last painted in 2009 and usually only gets painted every 10 years but the last coat of paint has turned pink so this week they are repainting it a nice bright red like it should be. This is being done by volunteers. A job that normally cost about $20,000.00.

Nice scene..... I know the lighthouse. It looks so different in B/W; almost like a winter scene. Rbo 36.... Glad to hear it will be red again. Pink lighthouses just are not in fad this year.

I wonder what kind of tales this lighthouse could tell. Nice photo. Do you know what year it was built?

The original lighthouse, a little square building was built in 1872. The present lighthouse was built in 1907. Rbo36

This is interesting. The first one lasted 35 years for reasons unknown, while the current one has lasted thus far for 105 years. It has been well maintained for being it's current age.

When the U.S. Coast Guard recommended that it be abandoned in 1970, citizens circulated petitions to rescue it. The Holland Harbor Lighthouse Historical Commission was then organized to preserve and restore this landmark.
