Then for 50 bucks, your answer is simple. That lens is so good that I use it to shoot on my a7m3 90% of the time, and always for my vacation lens. I also have the 70-300 which is ff, but hardly use that one as the 105 with Clear Image Zoom meets all my needs.

Are you referring to the 18-105 (apsc) or the 24-105 FE. The 18-105 is a power zoom and doesn’t work with CIZ.

I am referring to the 18-105 aps-c used on the FF a7m3. When used as such, it zooms out to 2x in some modes. It does limit the view to aps-c and reduces the pixel count in raw mode, but the IQ is sufficient that I am very happy with the results.

The clear image zoom should work with the power zoom. It does with the 16-50 kit lens, which is also a power zoom. You just have to go into the menu and select the CIZ feature. The lens automatically activates it. At least, the zoom gauge in the EVF says that it does. The 55-210 (and I assume this is true for all manual zoom Sony lenses) requires that you program a custom button to activate CIZ, then you engate it by rotating the ring around the omni-selector on the back of the camera. I programmed the custom button on the lower right corner of the camera back for CIZ. Works well when I need it.

HHMMM! I did try the 18-105 on my A6000 last night before I posted my first reply. I set the Quality to Fine / JPEG, and selected Clear Image Zoom from the menu but didn't get any additional zoom. David Busch's book seems to confirm that CIZ is indeed available on PZ lenses. I will have to experiment some more. I think this may be my 'learn something new everyday' for today.

Must put in a good word or so for the 18-135. Have had this lens since March,2018 and used it a lot.
Only lens that was on the camera for a 9 day trip/cruise. The lens often amazed me with its performance in good light and bad. It did all that I asked and more. Images attached. The reach from 18 to 135 (27-200 on APS) was just right in most instances. You also have Sony's 'digital Zoom' if you want it. Look in the camera manual or buy Allan Freidman's book to see how to set it up.
On the other hand have read many questionable things about the 18-105 G lens, including one allegedly knowledgeable person saying that it got the 'G' when it was new but probably could not meet todays 'G' standards. DP review and DXO mark both had poor initial reviews for it and after all the reading I decided not to go with it but wait. Glad I did.

I have and use the FE 24-105 f4 G it is FF. However, G glass is great glass! F4 is good for most things. I would suggest that getting the lens with G glass is better.

One fact that I don't see mentioned here is that the 18-105 is a constant f4 throughout your zoom range. And it zooms internally so the lense will not extend out at all. It's a great lense. You won't be sorry.

About the time I think I'm leaning toward the 18-105G, then I get a very positive reply regarding the 18-135. What to do?
