Great sequence and interesting. Nice group.
Great series. Even more interesting is the squirrel is at the top of the prey size for a Redtail. RTs normally feed on small rodents and even insects.
Nice shots. They remind me of a series of pictures I took over 10 years ago of a young red tail that had caught a 3' snake (nonpoisonous) and had it trapped to the ground. Well, the snake wasn't too happy with this and was doing everything it could to make life difficult for the hawk...wrapping itself around the hawk's legs and feet, twisting every which way...until the hawk caught the snake in its beak right behind the head and finished the drama before making a nice meal of the snake. It took 10-15 minutes for the hawk to get its dinner. Keep up the good work and share when you can.
You really made hay when the sun was shining. Could you post some of the shooting data? It would help us who are seeking to improve our shots.

We went to the beach yesterday and saw a juvenile Red Tail Hawk grab this squirrel. Crows were trying to take it from him so he stayed by us and let me get some photos. Unfortunately the squirrel was pregnant. Nature can be cruel.

Thank you kcmac! I was lucky that he didn’t mind being so close. Terri

Thank you Jeff! We were walking by when the hawk caught the squirrel. I’ve never had a hawk so unconcerned about me taking his picture. Terri

Thank you safeman! I wasn’t as surprised to see the hawk with a squirrel as the size of the squirrel until I saw the squirrel was pregnant. I’ve got lots of pictures but didn’t think anyone would really care to see the squirrel getting eaten. Terri

Thank you Jak! I have apair of red shouldered hawks that nest across the street. One caught a snake and ate it on the telephone post. The snake put up a good fight but the hawk won. Terri

Thank you Shootist! I was shooting with my Canon 7D mark11 and the canon 100-400 mark11. It’s a great wildlife combo. Settings were iso 640, f/5.0, 1/1000s
I wanted the shutter speed to be at least 1000 if he flew. Terri

Great series, Terri
Thanks Gregory! Alan and I were just about ready to go back to the car when the hawk caught a squirrel and the crows were going crazy. Got my camera out and was able to get some nice shots. Lucky me. Terri
