Be aware that the elevation in Taos is pretty high. I came down with some altitude sickness last time I was there, Symptoms are headache and nausea. If you start feeling weird, it is time to go to lower altitude.

That is a possible concern. At hiking and/or sporting stores you can pick up cans of oxygen (with a mouth and nose cover) that can bail you out if you get into a problem. they are also available on line if you want to get a couple, just in case.

If you are a museum person, Santa Fe has some great Native American and Spanish heritage museums. Albuquerque has the National Hispanic Cultural Center, an Art Museum and a Natural History Museum. Check their web sites for what is being featured during your visit. In an entirely different vein, there are museums detailing the development and building of the atomic bomb in Los Alamos and Albuquerque. The Albuquerque atomic museum has a static display of aircraft, including a B-52. Enjoy your visit.

If you have not been a habitual smoker or lived in a polluted environment (LA), the altitude will probably not be a problem. If you are prone to respiratory difficulties, purchasing some supplementary oxygen before you are in distress is probably a wise precaution.

Thank you to all for the wonderful replies. Now we are more excited than ever to be in our trip. We are staying at the LaFonda in Santa Fe and the Historic Taos Inn on old Highway 66.

Balloons fly in Albuquerque 300 days a year.

I agree with all the comments that have been posted. The weather is perfect this time of year. The mornings and evenings are cool but the rest of the time is warm.
The side streets from the Taos Plaza offer quite a bit of beautiful scenery, which also not far from where you will be staying.
