A faster shutter would have pushed up the ISO higher but it's easier to get noise out than blur. It's darn amazing what the 750 and high end sensors can handle noise. Too much emotion remaining from film days ASA 800 was a disaster.
Thanks for your comments. I was shooting at just about maximum aperture, and that was the fastest shutter speed possible without underexposing too much. I was using a 28-300mm lens, with 3.5 - 5.6 max aperture.
