I have my AF Beep on but not working. Most people turn this off but I want to enable. In the menu I have it on but not beeping once in focus. How to set this up? Thanks.
Shoot with Nikon D500.

My D5500 appears to only beep when in focus in the auto modes. (M A S P) do not give a beep.

Do you have the focus mode set to AF-C (perhaps as part of a back-button focus setup)? If so, the focus confirmation beep is turned off.

That's because I just re-read it in your great book "Secrets to the Nikon Autofocus System". I highly recommend it to Nikon owners who want to learn more about their cameras!

The "beep" will only function when the camera is in AF-S focus mode (used for stationary subjects).

There is no beep, no focus confirmation, when using the camera in AF-C "continuous" focus mode (used for moving subjects). There's nothing to confirm, since the AF never stops and locks focus the way it does in AF-S mode.

That's probably why you aren't hearing it. The D500 is a particularly good camera for action photography, moving subjects where AF-C would most likely need to be used.

EDIT: The reason a D5500 will only "beep" in Auto mode (or highly automated Scene modes), but not in M, A, S or P is very likely the same. When set to those Auto modes (which might be more accurately called "super Auto"), it's much more than just exposure that's automated. In those the camera overrides AF settings too (as well as White Balance, frame rate, flash settings, type of file saved and possibly more). Those are like "poin't n shoot" or "camera phone" modes.... everything automated and it's probably forcing you to use AF-S (allowing the "beep")... while you've got it set to use AF-C (no "beep") when you're using M, A, S and P (in A, S & P the camera only automates exposure.... it doesn't override other settings you've made, incl. AF mode).
