I am going this fall (October). I have seen the places to go provided by other HOGS -- have noted them and it is appreciated. I cannot seem to find any lens suggestions, though. I plan to take my Sony A6000, but need a suggestion, or two, on a good walk-around lens. I have a 30mm and a 50mm prime, and of course, the two kit lenses. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I loved my 18-105mm f/4. I just upgraded my camera and I’m selling this lens. $450 including a UV filter. Like new!

I have numerous lenses for my A6000. Hands down, the best 'one' lens for your trip would be the 18-105mm F4.0 G OSS. Bring the 16-50mm for times when you might want something small enough to carry in a jacket pocket. If you feel you need a top quality prime for landscapes etc try the Sony Zeiss 24mm F1.8. It is expensive but really nice, although I would be hard pressed to tell the difference in results between it and the 18-105.
I had the Sony 50mm but sold it. Nice lens, but awkward length on a crop. My 55-210 has been gathering dust since I got it.
Make sure to bring a CPL to help with the Fall colors.

Thanks Repleo. I have inquired about the 18-105 a fellow hogger has offered. Good price, so I'm considering the purchase.

Edited: On your APS-C E mount camera body ... Your camera accepts E mount lenses and mine take only A mount so I cannot recommend from actual usage a good lens choice, just the W/A to tele zoom idea. However, If you already have an appropriate LA-EA* adaptor then I could suggest a Sigma A mount lens ...
Dear photogeneralist,
I know you mean well, but you haven't used the Sony a6000 with the LA-EA4 adapter, which is the one designed to enable full communication between the camera and the Sony A-mount lens.

I have. I'm not even going to comment on the 'behavior' of the A-mt lenses as my point is that the additional bulk and weight of the LA-EA4 adapter may not be worth it to many of those who have grown accustomed to the smaller size of the lens/camera combination. To me, the lure of this smaller bulk is strong for wide angle and normal lenses, but for telephotos, I suppose the difference isn't too much, in the relative sense.

I use the Chinese Sony 50mm quite a bit ~ actually take more pictures with it than with the 35mm f1.8 (my usual "walk around" lens) ~ why? ~ because I probably take more pictures at events than any other venue, and I find the 50mm f/1.8 (75mm ff equiv) to be wonderful for candid portraits.

Look at the Sony 18-135 aps-c. Great walk around, stayed on the 6300 the entire cruise.

I usually use a Tamron 18-200mm on my A6000.

Thanks for your responses. I am still looking. The Tamron is on my list. I have a 50mm and 30mm that might go with me anyway. So many choices!!

Use my a6300 often for travel and the 18-105 is seldom off it! Super all around lens.

Sony 18-105mm f4 lens. A great walk-around lens for your A6000. I have this lens for my A6500 and it is used more than any other when I travel. It only weighs 15 ounces so not too heavy to leave on all day. The power zoom feature of this lens is a bonus also. If you need a longer zoom, there are some other choices listed here: https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHBH_enUS732US735&biw=1536&bih=728&tbm=shop&ei=NSp0W76YDKOMjwTw_ZCYDg&q=sony+e-mount+zoom+lenses+for+aps-c&oq=sony+e-mount+zoom+lenses+for+aps-c&gs_l=psy-ab.12...33082.35164.0.38664.8.8.0.0.0.0.101.719.6j2.8.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.5.461...33i10k1.0.LozdEst2lcU

And this Sony 24-240mm lens is another option: https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=sony+24-240mm&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=229021902846&hvpos=1t1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2656734014459018005&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9027222&hvtargid=kwd-301897012548&ref=pd_sl_5t933zugd3_b_p37

Thanks to all for your input. I have decided on the Sony 18-105 as a walk-around lens. Looked at quite a number of reviews of all the suggested lenses. I'll take the 30mm and 50mm primes with me.

If I get some good shots, I'll post when I get back to Delaware after the cruise (late October for posting).

I'm glad I found this site. I look everyday at what is going on. Seemed like the best place for advice -- I certainly was right!

And, of course, the "Zony" 16-70mm (Sony Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70mm f/4 ZA OSS) might be absolutely ideal for you, if it's comfortable to carry every day.
Agree. This is my favorite walk-about lens for my Sony A6300.

I’m using the Sony 24-240 lens. It is a bit heavy, but very versatile. It is made for full frame cameras, so you have the equivalent to a 36-360. When I need a wider angle, I use the panorama function in the portrait direction. Also, when I need a longer reach, i use the Clearimage Zoom, giving me around 600mm zoom. Aside from weight, I find this lense very useful.

Although the short zooms are very good, I have always noticed that I miss shots because there was no time or no ambition to change lenses. The wife and I took the New England/Canada FALL COLOR cruise last year. I took my SONY A77 and my trusty SIGMA 18-250mm lens. At f3.5, I found it to be fast enough and wide enough for 99.5% for anything requiring wide angle. The 250mm end gave me plenty of telephoto for the distant lighthouses and shore to ship shots. The crop sensor actually means I was shooting 27-375mm(35mm equiv) It is only about 4" long and is macro capable, weights 1 pound. It is priced for Sony at $499 at B&H. Probably less if you shop around. Have fun.

For me, that 30mm (or a 35mm) would be the ideal compact lens on the A6___ series cameras; for those times when I want the camera with me, but I'm not really looking for photo opportunities. It would give me a 45mm equiv field of view, and I'm quite fond of the 40-45 FOV. Good choice.
