I've been a keen photographer for a while, but sometimes I find taking photos - just for the sake of taking photos - is getting just a bit boring sometimes.
If I go onto a site like flickr, the photos that I find the most interesting aren't of sunsets, or birds in a tree, I go straight for the older photos of scenes that have long since disappeared.
So of late I find I'm more interested in taking photos and video of everyday scenes that are likely to disappear in the future.
In fact I seem to be taking more with a little Sony action cam than I am with the DSLR, partly because I enjoy the editing afterwards more - and partly because I can't be bothered to try and take 'the ultimate photo', which is of a small bird in a tree at sunset.
The only real downside of video is that I need a hard drive the size of North America!

I've been taking pictrues around my town because I know things will change. I do all stills, though. Stills are easier to store and display. Having both is good if you have the time and storage space.

You can also take photos of those places. I'm not much on video, even though my camera can do HD...

When I started doing this a couple of years ago, I went to the town hall and told them what I was doing, just in case someone wondered why I was taking pictures. Never a problem, though.

Lately I find video to be more interesting than stills, though I still shoot both. While I can PP a shot in Photoshop in a few minutes, I'll spend hours editing a 3 or 4 minute video in Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition for audio. With video you are editing the images, the audio, the transitions and the time. You can combine multiple audio and video tracks in the editor. I find it a stimulating challenge.
Last Christmas I bought a used Coolpix B700 on ebay for both the super zoom and the 4K video. With 4K I have lots or room to crop the frame and still have a good, non pixelated image.
In terms of hard drive, I have about 2/3 of my 1TB drive available and have never run into any space issues.
P.S. We have a video section on UHH "Video for DSLR and Point and Shoot Cameras" and would welcome some discussions.

I do mix a few stills in with the video, so I suppose I've got a foot in both camps.
Also I find about that about 2 minutes of 4K video takes up about 1gb of hard drive, but I find 1980 x 1080p at 50fps to be almost as good.
Another thing is the amount of kit I'm having to buy.
I bought a Sony FDR X3000 action cam, which is brilliant, but because it's so small it's difficult to keep the horizon level - so next I bought a hand held mount - then a motorised gimbal.
Then I needed all the various mounting brackets - and spare batteries - and so the story goes on!
But I do find the results very satisfying, more so than stills really.
Also I find about that about 2 minutes of 4K video takes up about 1gb of hard drive, but I find 1980 x 1080p at 50fps to be almost as good.

I am traveling internationally more since retiring and take both stills and increasingly more video. When I see a scene that tells a story I go for video. It shows animal behaviors that a still just cannot, IMHO.
