Because my Canon Mark IIIds with the 70-200 lens was too heavy for an old codger to carry especially when traveling, I finally purchased the Panasonic FX1000 after lengthy consideration of reviews.
Big Mistake.
Certainly the optic qualities do not compare with the above Canon equipment. Far from it! However, with the use of post-processing some of sharpness and detail qualities may be improved. However, the deficiencies of the physical aspects of this Panasonic camera stand out. Certainly the plastic rather than metal body may be considered less adequate, but the price indicates such. However, the shutter ceased to work properly (focus erratic to non-existant, focus button non-fuctional, to say the least, plus the zoom frequently locking up mid shoot!). The Panasonic customer support was nil because they had to look up every problem or question. Finally a supervisor took over and had me send the camera back for "repair", last week. After less the 5 months of practically no use (less than 1500 shots.)!
After using cameras for more than 70 years, this is my FIRST camera ever requiring repair! Quality is the problem. I now feel that I will purchase cameras ONLY from camera companies, not electronic firms who specialize in circuitry (often problematic!) and NOT in camera construction! Canon and Nikon for me, with no ensuant fundamental problems.

I am sorry you had so much trouble.
I also have the FZ1000, and have taken maybe 3000 photos. In that time it has performed flawlessly. Focusing is fast and totally accurate. Low light focusing is very very good. I have had a succession of high end Canon and Panasonic cameras, and find this is a good option in many ways. It is pleasant and easy to use, and the IQ is excellent. I am really pleased with this camera, and given the choice would buy it again. The prints at a4 size are indistinguishable from my present full frame camera, except under very special and unusual circumstances. All in all it is a good product. Incidentally I have had a high end Canon which required repair just after the warranty ran out. It cost $450. That was a disappointment.
