Interesting video comparing a $150 kit to one costing around 5 grand!

No surprise. Since 1968, I've seen wildly variable results from high end gear. A bad image is SELDOM caused by the gear! It's the [lack of] knowledge, experience, and wisdom about six inches behind it.

We can screw up any image with [name a high end camera here]. Use it correctly and within its design limits, and we can make gorgeous photographs with just about any camera.

Low end gear can compete with high end gear with easy shooting conditions. But once you start shooting low light, fast action, contrasty lighting, large prints etc. the high end gear starts to shine. That's assuming the person with the high end gear knows how to get the best out of it.

I have lots of photos of my feet, the ground, the inside of the lens cap. Not the camera's fault.

But do you save the RAW files only and ditch the JPEG and TIFF exports? Or keep them all?

I've heard storage is cheap....

This guy doesn't seem to know much about the Nikon D40. First of all, of course the D40 has a light meter. Then he said he had to manually focus the 18-55mm standard kit lens. The 18-55mm lens is an autofocus lens. Then he said he couldn't focus the manual 50mm. It's easy to focus with manual lenses. Turn the focus ring on the lens and look for the focus confirmation dot in the finder. Lastly, he said the D40 did not have auto ISO. It does.

You are absolutely correct, I noticed that too. He seemed to like to hear him talk a lot.

I think a good cell phone could have competed under these conditions, ie reviewing on a laptop.

I have Sony and Nikon, Canon, Fuji, and still have old film cameras.....they all did/do a wonderful job as long as I'm on my game.
