Last week I purchased the latest Tamron 18 - 400mm lens, and I find zooming in and out to be very tight, the salesperson said over time, it will become smoothe and less resistive/tight in zooming in/out. I have tried zooming in/out 20-30 times per day since then, but have seen no change, is there a solution to this situation?

mine reaches a point around 100mm thru about 300mm where it becomes more difficult to turn, but it never hangs up; I think it is just the nature of the lens. There are a lot of moving parts inside it that have to slide. I've had it about a year; it doesn't get better and it doesn't get worse.

You may want to contact Tamron, I have the same lens and have no issues with it

Not sure if you meant is as a joke but it is an insanely poor piece of advice

I’ve had the Tamron 18-400 since just after it was released last year. I love it. It will loosen with regular usage. Enjoy it.

I have been using my 18-400 for about 3 months and have found it fairly smooth from the beginning. It is a little tighter than the 18 - 270 it replaced, but it is not a hindrance.

Is the lock still on? (and now broken). I have a 18-200mm Tamron and it has a manual lock and also locks up when the turned off camera is set to AF.

Good point.

Personally, I’d never put WD40 anywhere near a lens of mine.

It was a joke! You watch too much CNN.

Thought it might be, but you can never tell who might take it seriously (and you have no idea what I watch).

Bring it back and ask for another lens or your money back.

I've had the lens for a few months now with no issues. Exchange it or contact Tamron. It's a great lens and I use it as my walking around lens as it can do so much. Good luck!

If you're willing to look at some of the reviews on this lens, it's mentioned more than once about the tight ring. Seems to be inherrent in the design. Good luck with that 22x.

My photo buddy has this lens for a while. It carries a 6 year warranty on it. It just started to stick (after 7 years I think). We took it to a camera repair man we know. He said send it in for warranty service. My suggestion asked for an exchange or refund. It should not be sticking. I have had tamrons for a long time. My first one was the 18-270 then I upgraded to the 16-300 mm. I would have gone to the 18-400 but it was not out then. I am very happy with Tamron. The person at the camera shop should give you better customer service.

Funny how the folks who don’t have this lens are the ones who are critical of it. Go figure.
