Hello
How many here plan their photography outings with Google maps?
I have been doing it and it's great. I often spend time during the week roaming around in satellite view.
It's amazing how much is in relative close proximity to you that was previously unknown.

Once you find something that might interest you, switch to street view. From there you can check the conditions of the area as well as
pre-plan potential shots. You can often find parking ahead of time.
When you arrive to do some shooting, the location is not totally new and saves a good bit of time.
If you are going somewhere already, you can also use the views to see if there is anything else of interest in the area.

I've found plenty of great spots in the last couple of months this way.
Good Luck.

Yes, I've been doing that for years all the time. Only big problems are the tiny side roads and dirt roads and parking lots with no Street View images. Another really annoying but rare issue is new or newly developed or build on areas where the satellite and street level pictures were taken long apart and no longer match. That can get weird with one or the other being out of date. Ever try to find a brand new address via google or the USPS? It can get annoying!

In fact with using Google Maps and some written instructions I was able to find the location where U2's Joshua Tree was. The plant died some years ago. But I was able to locate and have driven to with in a few miles of it. It was the wrong way from the Y we were traveling past going to Death Valley. Some day we may take the short side trip and find the impromptu plaque and shrine to the tree!

I use Google Maps + LightTrak + online databases to plan LightHouse shoots.
