Certainly you can insure your property against damage, but read the fine print. Will your policy pay full replacement value and loss of use cost? Is there a deductible?
Maintenance is cheaper than insurance in most cases.
I appreciate all the above suggestions. When I lived in South Florida with central air I did not experience the problem but now I live in Panama without central air. I don't know if AC is a solution but I do know I just got a quote from a shop in the USA for $800 to cleanup my long lens and replace some elements!
Water soaked conditions generally mean where a roof leaks and the drywall get saturated with water. Or after a flood condition in an area has soaked a home/car and will take some time to dry out. I doubt you will ever experience either of these. But, we do have hurricanes . . . .
