Hi, folks. I have a Nikon D90 which I bought off E-bay about a year ago. Two weeks ago while shooting at a classic car show the thing stopped working. The mirror is stuck in a half-way position. Took it to two different repair shops in New York. One said Nikon no longer services the D90. The other said it could be fixed if the parts were found, but it would be expensive and getting a new(er) might be a better option.
Anyone know of any place that might be able to fix the D90? If I were to get a new(er) camera, what would be a good Nikon model. I'd like to keep using the F-mounted lenses and the battery pack. Don't want anything too expensive, around $500, and would like to get something that Nikon still services.
Thanks,
Ken

I needed a place that would be able to clean the sensor on my Sony A6000. I arrived as they opened. They completed the sensor cleaning while I waited. Staff was friendly.
Whatever you choose, be sure it is fully compatible with your current lenses. I had a D-80 which had a screwdrive link between the body and the lenses. I’m pretty sure your D-90 is the same. Older lenses, that work with the D40-D90 bodies, will not autofocus with the newer D3000 & D5000 series cameras. They will work with the D7000 series cameras. For that reason, when I upgraded, I went for the D7100 which would probably work well for you.

Did you call Nikon and what did they say? Did you charge the battery? Did you try a factory reset with a good battery?
Have you checked with Nikon USA directly?
Don
The best body you can buy in that price range would the Nikon d5600. About $500 at BJs with two lens. I had the same problem with a d80. I am really happy I spent a little more money and got a Nikon d5300 with Nikkor 18-140. I would not waste any more money on your d90. There is a reason Nikon does not service them anymore.
Very good advice , but if you don’t mind manual focus it’s not a problem.

Use the “Quote Reply” option as I have done so we know which comment you are referencing.
Take out the battery then push up on the mirror don't force it this may free it up and it may come down it did on mine .
Hi, everyone. It's me again. Just want to say I got the D90 fixed. B&H recommended a camera repair place and they got the D90 running again. It seems to be working fine now, although, truth be told, I really film over digital. I seem to get better results, but I'm still learning how to utilize the D90.
Anyway, just want to thank you all for your responses and advice
