Just wonddered if any one had any experience with buying from e-bay direct from HongKong?

Thinking of sellers like this.
5D MkIII body for a little over £2000.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-III-Mark-3-DSLR-Body-gifts-IN-STOCK-WUT6-/261032047406?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_DigitalCameras_DigitalCameras_JN&hash=item3cc6b8f32e#ht_4179wt_1388.

OK no need to mention the lack of warranty etc, i understand all of that, I was just wondered if anyone had trid one of these sellers. Real Canon or knock off's?

OK, I'll admit it. I have purchased items on e-Bay from Hong Kong. But only for small low cost items. I have never had a problem but it sometimes takes months for things to arrive.

That being said, I knew I was gambling, but it was worth the risk given e-Bay's buyer protection policy and the low low cost of the items I ordered (under 10$).

But for a DSLR body?!! NOT ON YOUR LIFE! Run, don't walk, but run away from this foolish notion!!

I also have bought " low ticket " items. Been burnt 2 out of 3 times. A high end DSLR? NO. Would not even consider it. I would spend some extra $$$ and buy local or Adorama, B&H, KEH, etc. with a proven track record and warranty or exchange.

Except for batteries I have had fairly good luck with some purchases. I have purchased a TC-89NS Timer/Remote Direct from China at a good savings. Whenever possible I will buy from a US distributer of the Chinese goods both OEM gray market and third party knockoffs. They usually only cost a little more then the identical thing from Hong Kong but will arrive in days instead of weeks I saved a fair amount buying a battery grip for my 7D. Those of you looking for a wired remote switch for a Canon *D or **D should be observant of the connector. The OEM three pin plug that attachés to the camera should have a Grey shell over the body of the plug that slides forward to pinch a small metal locking ring that keeps it attached to the camera. Some of the Chinese switches have these and cost more Many of the knockoffs do not and will fall out with little provocation

I also have purchased numerous items from China, both big and small, with no problems. In many cases the items are exactly the same as sold at any domestic retailer. Mulachabu mentioned history and rating of seller. I also use this as a strong indicator as to whether I would purchase something from any Ebay seller. I have relatively high standards. Seller must have sold 100's of items and have a rating of at least 98%, but usually I stick with 99 or 100% only. I also then review the history looking for those that have bought a similar item to what I'm looking at. The same standard applies to local, domestic or foreign purchases. Do the research, avoid - 'to good to be true' - prices, and good luck with your new gear!

Very good advice. On ebay I look for the smaller seller. A few thousand feedbacks is OK. If they have 500,000 or so it's a retailer. Nothing wrong with that as long as it's at least 98% positive feedback. I'm the little guy. 138 feedbacks, 100% positive.

Helping our country first is still buying products mostly made outside of our country. It's a sad thing but I'm just being realistic.

Yes I purchased a 17-200mm Nikon super zoom! At $800.00 It came with in five days but if the parcel would have been stopped at customs I would have had to pay an extra tax. I was not aware that there would have been an improt tax too be added which would have made the cost more than a U.K. purchase

http://www.rythercamera.com/catalog/ is near that price. Have never used Ryther but their reseller ratings are good.

Custom duties usually only apply if a product you are importing competes with a similar product manufactured in your country. I once had to import some button kits from a Swedish company for a "help" alarm transmitter we installed in senior living quarters. The button and braclet didn't get import duties but the cotten string necklace cost us an arm and a leg. Why because we grow cotten here! The worse part is I had scads of necklaces, I only needed the interchanable button transmitter. Interestingly the address on the remote switch I ordered from China was headed by "Touncle" ;)

Which part of Jersey are you from? I was born and brought at Gorey, lived there till I was 27. Good Luck with getting your camera.

St. Clement, just on the coast road between Pontac slip and the Co-Op and what was Griffin Garage.

Used to farm, the farm was on the inner road, just beyond the Parish Church and Caldwell hall. used to have a small farm shop there..as all little farms did

Here is an idea for you. Come to Canada and buy your 5D MKIII from the Camera Store in Calgary. Then go for a couple of day into Banff national park to shoot some of the most beautiful mountains and have excellent opportunities for moose, bear, and elk, (not to mention mountain goats.)

You will have now paid about as much for your camera as having bought it in the U.K., and had a great time shooting some exquisite landscapes. Note: The net price after rebate is arount 3300 CAD. Verify whether VAT is exempt and exchange rates. If it is a breakeven, and you get a free holiday it's a pretty sweet way to get some great photos with your new camera.

Was thinking of coming over to Canada again this Winter, but out east to the cousins farm in Westmeath, Ontario. Was up in Algonquin Park at the end of last summer. Want the camera before we go on holiday this year.. India

I would not be able to get firmware upgrades, repairs, or even customer support from Nikon. If you sell the camera, you would have to tell the buyer that it was graymarket. .

Why cant you get firmware upgrades on the grey imports?

Unlikely to sell it...I still have my F1n :)
