You know that Security Security is socialist, right? Republicans fought against that too in the '30's during a time of disintegrating families, little economic (cash) activity, and the destruction of rural life by natural forces. Let's let Grandpa starve, it's his own fault for not being rich. My business owner grandfather hated Roosevelt. Seems hard-hearted now, doesn't it?
Is it government intrusion or are we the government that is working to improve society? It is not a slippery slope. It's a battle between forces wanting to use government to prop up society, and forces wanting people to stand alone, to rise and fall on their own.
You like your Medicare? Socialist. You like having the largest military on Earth, ever? Socialist. You like not seeing starving people begging on the streets of your town or breaking into your house to steal food? Food stamps are socialist. You veterans like your VA benefits? Socialist. You like community colleges teaching photography courses? Socialist. If you don't like to see the homeless wandering on the streets, then let government be the organizer that coordinates the improvements rather than just throwing out cranky, disparaging names that add nothing, and signify less.
An attack on government is an attack on democracy. Because we are the government. Stop sowing discord and effect what you want through action. Or are you Russian?
