You can go to my website at "bobhumphreyphotography.com" and the top six pictures listed in the castles and cathedrals folder are from our trip.
Perhaps a Nikonos (under water camera) Just in case. Either the Nikonos, or (was it ) Calypso the earlier version.

Did you find that a tripod was a good idea for the excursions? I love my VR lenses but I sure ain't as steady as I once was.
If you're concerned RE being steady for taking picture, I suggest that a cumbersome, heavy tripod would not work well. I'm still agile, and would not want to lug around a tripod. Suggestions: 1-Get a shoulder mount. That would be less cumbersome, but would still be awkward on an excursion. 2-Brace your camera using the corner of a building, (light) pole, or that marvelous photo accessory, your spouse's shoulder. 3-A (telescoping) monopod. I saw some on Amazon for less than $20 that intrigue me.

I’d take the crop body, a versatile zoom, and a quick prime. Lighter weight and less of a pain to tote.
Exactly. That's what I'll be doing this September.
Just got home from 5th river cruise in Europe. Take light body and 1 or 2 lenses...and leave tripod home. Go light, you'll be a lot happier....and less tired. Enjoy!
Let me add: When on a cruise, someone who is attempting to lug around too much equipment is not appreciated by others. You want to see a shot, and quickly make the picture. Yes, it is almost like taking snapshots, except tempered by your experience/expertise. That's one of the differences/trade-offs of traveling by yourself.
Don't over think it. As fourpar said, "Go light". I've done well with bridge Canon SX50 and may purchase an SX60. With the SX50, I could get pictures while others were trying to swap lens.
Enjoy your trip!!!

Read the reply from mizzee. The wife and I are taking river cruise # 4 or 5 in September. Not a lot to shoot from the ship. The shore tours are great. I take a Sony APS-C, a 18-250, a 10-20 and a fast 50mm. My bag is a backpack. This leaves both hands free. Maybe throw in a fast to open monopod. Tripods are not allowed in a lot of places and get kicked in a crowd. Have fun.
