I am looking at the nest 327 dollars, gitzo 500 dollars and the pro media katana junior 550 dollars all with shipping. Price not a major issue. Is one better or worse for Nikon 200 to 500 mm lens. Thanks for your help

I purchased a MovoFoto gimbal almost 2 years ago from Amazon for use with my 150-600mm G2 Tamron..I got the original aluminum version at about $100 USD..It's service has been EXCELLENT for my purposes..No it's will not be as smooth as a Wimberely..But for my money , it is an absolute bargain at a great price point! It has seen a lot of use
, and it hasn't failed me!!

I sold my Whimberley after getting a RRS Pano Gimbal. It depends on what you want to do with it ultimately. I consider the RRS to be a more versatile System of components and for some of the shooting I do the repeatability of the markingsvon the RRS are very handy. That said there are good options at different price points depending on what you want to do and spend. You can find good deals on eBay if you don't want to pay new prices too...

I am a user of RRS gear, and their Pano Gimbal looks like a great product. While I do not have a gimbal now, I have been researching them. If money is not an issue, take a look at them on their website. http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/

They have very high quality products, all made in the USA, great customer service. The website also has some excellent information on how to choose the right tripod, and quite a few other topics.

They would all handle that lens well.

And there are some other good ones you also might want to consider:

The only type I'd avoid is the few that don't have Arca-style quick release mount, because you need a means of adjusting the equilibrium of the lens and camera on the head.

Personally I currently use a Wimbeley Sidekick in combination with a heavy duty Kirk BH1 ballhead on one tripod and a cheap, Chinese-made full size "J-type" on another tripod. (I plan to replace the latter eventually with something better... probably the Nest head.)

I bought the Nest a couple of years ago. I had a Manfroto previously. For the money, you can not beat it. It is well made, well designed. MT Shooter takes care of his customers.

Yes, there are some very high dollar ones, I guess if your a pro and using a Gimbal 7 days a week, one might consider spending more.

I agree with billnikon, except for the handholding, which is now beyond my abilities. I all other respects, I use a Wimberley and have never been dissatisfied with my choice. The more I use it, the better I like it.

Go Nest and don’t ever look 👀 back...
Seriously,
Have Nest and Gitzo!!!
Prefer Nests smoother operation ...
I use Gitzo (after oil change) for very cold weather operation. Plus during reassembly I cleaned up the roughest sugrfaces with 1000, 1200 & 1500 grit paper and go close to Nest’s smoother operation but not on spot...
I also have a British

Unit... forgot the brand name. Nice unit I just don’t reach for it when prepping to Bird or using a brick lens

The gitzo looks beautiful but I will only be a casual user. Nest is beginning to make more sense but practical is not my middle name

When using my Nikon D-850 camera with the big-boy lenses like the Nikkor 70-200eFL and the Tammy 150-600 on my RRS tripod, my gimbal is...…..drum roll...…..the Nest. I bought it from Carter @ Camera Cottage (see other posts) @ http://www.cameracottage.com/ The Nest is carbon fiber and comes w/Arca Plate. He compares the Nest to his Wimberley WH-200 heads. Call Carter and if he doesn't convince you, then simply don't go with it. Again, bought the Nest a few years ago and LOVE it.
