Carolina Wings,
Great shots! How do I manage to hear the sounds you mentioned. I clicked on download but only got the great pictures. I must be missing a step in there somewhere.
I was fortunate enough to get several pictures of Pileated Woodpeckers in Northern Minnesota while visiting my old college roommate. They are amazing birds and find their nest is really special. Well done and thank you.

Jan, really great pictures. They beat any that I have taken of a Pileated. Wish you had put in the “download” for the last one. It looks like it has something in its bill.

Great pics! I have been hearing the pileated in our woods for a few years, and just a few weeks ago saw one on our suet. I was able to get a few pictures, but it was through our black pet screen so they were not very good. Good enough to spark my memory. I am very jealous of your experience and the great pictures. They are all great, but to capture the babies and the flight, wow! Thanks for sharing.

This hole is a little too far for my camera's reach and there is no way to get closer and still see it. It isn't easy to find a Pileated Woodpecker's nest...so I couldn't resist! I am posting their sound in case someone has never heard one before...they almost sound like they belong in a jungle

Excellent shots, Jan. We see far more Downies at the suet stations than Pileated, but both show up on and off throughout the day. Never spotted a nest, tho.

Thank you Randy...that's the first nest I ever found of Pileated Woodpeckers...and I'm so glad you liked the shots!
