This car was a big hit when it first came out. I don't think they're making these anymore. Correct me if i'm wrong.

A few “throwback cars” have been successful but the problem is next year’s model. What do you do to differentiate one year from another? The P T was a hit but interest fizzled after a few years of sameness. I really wanted a P T but never bought one. It looked like a fun car.

I remember seeing one in a Chrysler dealership, it had a $5,000 (I don't remember what they called it) markup. I lost interest immediately!

Looks just like the Red 2001 PT Cruiser that I purchased (slightly used) in January 2001. The car was quite versatile, provided good headroom for rear seat passengers and a decent amount of cargo space. Mine had a manual transmission and usually managed 27-28mpg in mostly highway commuting. In the early years the car attracted quite a bit of positive attention.

Though the Chrysler PTs developed a rather bad reputation for unreliability, mine was a daily driver/commuter car until I retired in 2015. A couple of years later, in 2017, the car developed a series of seemingly random and episodic electrical problems: my guy (did the regular maintenance and got the car to nearly 180,000 miles) suggested that that the car was brain-damaged and that it ought not be driven out of town anymore.

Seen below, my PT next to its rather non-descript replacement, just before the man from the American Cancer Society arrived to haul it away.

I love my Cruiser. Perfect seat height for a 70 year old to get in and out. Roomy for bringing home flea market furniture. Once I got over the 100K mile maintenance hump, she's good to go for the rest of my life. 108,661 miles.

Moving 130,000 units average per year of a single model per year without major changes sounds like a hit in my book!

One million in USA, 300000 in Europe, Asia....1st Generation 2001 thru 2005, 2nd Generation 2006 thru 2010....

2nd Gen.= new dash interior, bumpers integrated into auto body....modernizing efforts.

Popularity attributed to the throwback-retro look of the 1930's & a little street rod look....

The PT Cruiser is gaining popularity even today as a Collector Auto...

Personally I believe it is right up there with Mustang's, Camaro's, Corvette's & others...

My wife bought a 2002 PT Cruiser. It was gun-metal blue and we had a $2000 custom flame added. She loved the car. I had a problem with the ridged map holder in the door. It hit me in the lower leg and it was uncomfortable for me to drive. We eventually traded it in for a Chrysler hard-top convertible, in 2008. We still have the car and love driving it around, taking photos wherever we go.

These were great little cars. I bought my wife one in mid 2000(it was a 2001). Had no problems with it for 17 years and only put 71,000 miles on it. And yes, when I bought it new I had to pay the premium dealer add on of $2400.

They were fun and versatile. A friend and I went to the New Mexico bomb school and they gave us one of the Chevy throwbacks. It was a fun car to drive but when we were driving our arms were touching because of the lack of width. When we finished the week and turned it back in to Albequerque we still hadn't put gas in it and we had been out to the VLA and down to the "world's seventh best hamburger joint" and all around Soccorro so we were impressed. The next school we went to was down at Demming and there were six of us and they gave us a Suburban...we put gas in every other day since we had to drive eighty miles one way down a 75mph road to get to the school. We didn't do any cruising down there since there's literally nothing out there but sand, cactus, and rattlers!

I have a silver 2009 bought used in 2010 with 97000 miles on it. Just the basic model. I tend to keep cars a long time to at least 100,000 miles. Even had a VW Rabbit diesel that was bought with over 100,000 miles on it that lasted to over 200,000.
