It was a perfect day for a ride. While driving around the wine country we came across these planes on display.

Nice ones. To think of how many thousands of Americans flew those things without heat.

Nice photos except for the halo around the B-24 in the fifth picture.
Having lived in Northern California most of my life when you say 'wine country' I think of Napa, California. Is that the 'wine country' you are referring to? Or do you have a 'wine country' in the Pacific Northwest?

Hi Greg,
Thank you. Yes, I have been extremely fortunate. Luck of the draw I guess. I am in my ninth year of retirement and still going strong. My wife is semi retired. She works one day a week. That is her choice. She just can't let go. lol We are truly "living the dream".

Thank you. You are correct. There are no frills on these planes. A side note. I am 6'4" and tried to walk inside two of these planes. Let's just say it was entertaining to watch me try to navigate from back to front. :)

Sorry about the halo. Rookie mistake. Or, can I blame it on my old guys eyes? :) What part of northern California do you live in? My wife in a California girl. Born and raised just outside of San Jose. Yes, NAPA is definitely wine country. But.... surprisingly Oregon has a healthy wine business. We have over 300 wineries and more than 75 varieties of grapes. In the 60's some wine growers from California took a chance at growing in our NW climate and were successful. Yamhill County, just outside of Portland has a number of wineries. But they are scattered all over the state.

No, it is Aurora State airport. It is about a forty-five minute drive from Portland, Oregon. It is the third busiest airport in Oregon. But... it did not have a tower until 2015.
