Then why is is it that Nikon came out with the first SLR WITH video the. D90

Canon has video cameras, and the EF mount is the other standard along with PL. I believe it is not the Nikon mount. First has nothing to do with anything, it is what you do with it. Canon was late to the AF but when they entered it with the EF/EOS system it literally crushed Nikon and all other systems who have been struggling 30 years to catch up with Canon's 30 year old technology. Nikon still struggles to do AF with their cameras to this day in video mode.

It's the eternal question of the Ages, Canon or Nikon, I myself am a Nikonian, I like the reproduction of the greens more in the Nikon

The first camera you bought; why did you buy it? Because someone else told you it was better? As long as the camera meets YOUR requirements, feels good in your hands and meets your "price" requirements and you did your own research.....who cares?
I know Canon users who switched to Nikon/Sony/Pentax and others.
I know Nikon uses who switched to Canon/Sony/Pentax and others.
Who cares?
As long as that person is happy and the camera does what they want it to do, who cares?

Could it be that Canon offered to the news agencies a better price then Nikon?
Who cares? br The first camera you bought; why did... (show quote)

My first “real” camera was a Canon, probably because of reputation and I still have it. When I went digital, I was torn between Canon & Nikon. The Nikon felt better in my hands and was just a step ahead of the Canon at the time. Now I have too many lenses to consider switching and I’ve been very happy with my choice

There good enough to make full length feature films for the silver screen , hay! That's all ready been done with the Nikon.
By a well known director.

I don't have time at the moment to look this up, but I believe that the special effects in the original Star Wars movie were shot with a Nikon F2, one frame at a time.

I always was attracted to the Nikon F. It was the most beautiful thing outside of an XKE that I had ever seen. Just had to have one. Got it and have never been disappointed. Took a long time for me to go digital as I didn't want to give it up. So take your Canons, they make good paperweights.

If I understood Lee correctly he also thought that there are more Canon (at least the pros) users than Nikon user by what he saw. However, he noticed that there are more posts with questions on Nikon than Canon.

That is what he observed. I agree. No value judgment on either brand intended.

I've been a Nikon user for 50+ years, never had a problem, had a lot of questions about my photography, but not the camera.

I have a Nikon FM2 and now using a D-3000 and saving to upgrade to a D-5600. I also had a Nikonos III.

I can remember when Canons were not in the same league with Nikons, but the competition is now good for both Canon and Nikon.

For the buyer, competitive quality is what creates competitive pricing. You never want one brand to stand unchallenged at the top.

Im not making any statement about which camera is better, but am curious about the large amount of questions here from Nikon users, about basic things... I am wondering if there are more novice photographers here and what they use ... I know I am stirring up a hornets nest, and just for the record I use both...
I see photos on line or on T.V. of pros at events with their Canon cameras and their white long zooms, with only a few other cameras.. Am I making a wrong conclusion, that most pros use Canon and novice hobbies use other brands... I also am aware of Sony, & how popular they are getting.. Now more than 2 choices......
Not sure how I can asses if there are more Canon users than other brands...

While most pros do use Canon is not because its preferred, the reason why many pros use canon is because many agencies like AP, Getty and Local newspapers are contracted by Canon.
Many of those same photogs tell me they prefer Nikon over Canon because Nikon lens are sharper, but they have to use Canon because they are contracted by their agencies to use Canon only.
Also those said photogs do NOT own their gear.

I was wondering if this is actually true. It is a fact that football games and other sporting events on TV show more photogs using Canon than any other brand. But when watching the News, I seem to see many more Nikons in the sea of photogs than Canons. Anybody else notice this?

Yes. That’s also been my observation at local events.
