A glorious day at Oak Mountain State Park in central Alabama. The dragonflies were out in force and seemed almost to be posing for their portraits. All these were taken with a D850 and the new 90mm macro (G2) from Tamron. It was very bright and I used a macro ring flash system when needed.
What a fine set of dragons. Excellent lighting and great detail. I really enjoyed it. I don't mean to be a wise guy but if you are interested in IDs here is what you have or maybe you already know:
1. Female Spangled Skimmer (Libellula cyan)
2. Male Widow Skimmer (Libellula luctuosa)
3. Female Eastern Pondhawk (Erythemis simplicicollis)
4. Male Slaty Skimmer (Libellula incesta)

Love your Dragons Allan! Can't wait to more start coming out in my area. Got a few good shots but in July and on will be better.

Nice!! You're so lucky to have so many kinds of 'fly. We only see the blue one around here (Halifax NS). Envy.
Thanks Doc!
I normally take the time to ID the subjects in my macro/BIF/reptile images - I believe that accurate taxonomy is a foundational characteristic of good wildlife photography. I am pretty sure that Carl Linnaeus would have my back on that. As a self-styled pseudo-herpetologist, I recognize the genera and species names for most of the reptiles and amphibians in my neck of the woods. The insects, on the other hand, I have to learn as I go. I occasionally make the effort to put the names of insects into my overcrowded and severely leaky hippocampus - but without much lasting success.
And never hesitate to jump in with useful information - it will always be welcome!
Cheers!
