TOP 7 IDIOTS OF THE YEAR!

1. *AT&T fired President John Walter after nine months, saying he lacked intellectual leadership. He received a $26 million severance package. Perhaps it's not Walter who's lacking intelligence?

2. *WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS: Police in Oakland, CA spent two hours attempting to subdue a gunman who had barricaded himself inside his home. After firing ten tear gas canisters, officers discovered that the man was standing beside them in the police line, shouting, 'Please come out and give yourself up.'

3. *WHAT WAS PLAN B? An Illinois man, pretending to have a gun, kidnapped a motorist and forced him to drive to two different automated teller machines, wherein the kidnapper proceeded to withdraw money from his own bank accounts.

4. *THE GETAWAY! A man walked into a Topeka, Kansas Kwik Stop and asked for all the money in the cash drawer. Apparently, the take was too small, so he tied up the store clerk and worked the counter himself for three hours until police showed up and grabbed him.

5. *DID I SAY THAT? Police in Los Angeles had good luck with a robbery suspect who just couldn't control himself during a lineup. When detectives asked each man in the lineup to repeat the words: 'Give me all your money or I'll shoot', the man shouted, 'that's not what I said!'

6. *NOT THE SHARPEST TOOL IN THE SHED! In Modesto, CA, Steven Richard King was arrested for trying to hold up a Bank of America branch without a weapon. King used a thumb and a finger to simulate a gun. Unfortunately, he failed to keep his hand in his pocket. (hellooooooo...!!!)

7. *THE GRAND FINALE! Last summer, on Lake Isabella, located an hour east of Bakersfield, CA, some folks, new to boating, were having a problem. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't get their brand new 22 foot boat, going. It was very sluggish in almost every maneuver, no matter how much power they applied. After about an hour of trying to make it go, they putted into a nearby marina, thinking someone there may be able to tell them what was wrong. A thorough topside check revealed everything in perfect working condition. The engine ran fine, the out-drive went up and down, and the propeller was the correct size and pitch. So, one of the marina guys jumped in the water to check underneath.
He came up choking on water, he was laughing so hard. Under the boat, still strapped securely in place, was the trailer!

*Now remember, these are all true stories and these people vote and most have children!*

The first one, John Walter at AT&T occurred in 1997 -- 21 years ago. $22 million of the $25.8 million he received is because he had forfeited that much when AT&T hired him away from his previous job.

An by the way Reddog, I have absolutely no desire to go to California; it would be absolute last on my list of states to move into. So, "everyone" does not want to "come here" to California.

When I was a kid, Cali was a pristine and beautiful place (except for the LA basin, and parts of other cityscapes, mostly due to pollution and our human penchant for building ugly stuff) and the population was low. There was even then, a large mix of cultures, which was interesting and educational in its own right. When I came to Florida as a mid-teen, it was also like that. Then, population explosion (for all the usual/unusual reasons) and paradise is lost.

Which begs the guestion, why are you still there?

Retired, age 72, own home, ties to family of my wife, have major health problems and have been with Kaiser since mid 60s so they have me examined and recorded to a fare-thee-well. Moving could be an expensive and exhausting thing. Only a few states have Kaiser which I very much prefer to stay with.
Also I do not trust the state teacher's retirement system and LA Unified School District to not either cut my benefits in future if I move out of state or figure out some way to still collect state income taxes before sending my pension on to me in another state.

Actually the stats show that twice as many people lower middle class and above are moving out than moving in.
The super rich (silicon valley) don't care, even after high taxes (and they can afford accountants to even fight those off) they still have so much their lifestyle doesn't change. Except maybe not being able to buy some other business on whim out of pocket change.
The very poor get benefits that when converted to buying power has them living better than almost anywhere else if they are smart enough to manage things right. But if they were that good at managing things they wouldn't be poor enough to get those benefits.
A few years ago some economist did a study that showed that with meeting the right criteria on welfare etc some people had the buying power equivalent of over $80,000 a year income. And then they wonder why they don't go out and get a job!!!

And this is certainly not fake news when 'some economist' is quoted.

Here's one: gosh, somebody told me that Cox is brilliant, although he has -0- experience, he would be great as Governor.

Must be true since 'somebody' said it!

That's MY concern with staying in Ca. Their education system is absolute crap when Californians don't develop critical thinking skills.

California's economy is 5th largest in the world, not according to 'some economist', but according to the New York Times and according to data released by the U S Department of Commerce.

Thanks for the laugh - I remember a newsman in Chicago years ago saying that you just can't make this stuff up.

I read that years ago and certainly don't intend to research it to satisfy you.
I read so much I can't remember the details but I am very good at remembering the general trends, ideas etc.

Even back in the 60s when CA's education system had a great reputation it was behind a lot of places, but they were in "flyover country" and never noticed by the coasts and elites. In 10th grade up in Ceres (next to Modesto) I was assigned the same "Civics" text book I had used in the 5th grade in my hometown in Kentucky. After two years in CA I moved back to Kentucky and almost flunked out of the 12th grade College Prep course because I had gotten so lazy in CA. I had to get it in gear the second semester and make a bunch of straight 'A' classes to pull off a 2.75 GPA that year. (the grading scale was not the 10% to a letter scale used in most of Ca today, it had 75% as the lowest D- so that 2.75 was around an 87 or 88%)

It is #5 in the world because it is part of the US and that is based on high tech, aircraft, movie/TV and agriculture. But in agriculture the state has been getting lower ratings because so much of the prime land near the cities is getting paved and built over while the good soils in the desert and semi-desert areas have already soaked up the water supply and there is no water for irrigation to expand there. So the jobs that are available are either high tech, in an industry with too many prospective workers (movies and TV-everyone wants to be a star) or low skill, low pay service jobs.
The exodus out of the state is by skilled people, many businesses still small enough to move etc - in the rest of the country there are more jobs than unemployed.

Yup - that's just the tip of the iceberg of stupid here in California.
