Hey! Newbie here, hoping to find some wisdom and guidance. Just got my Nikon D500, and I’ll be using it as soon as I read the manual..,,,maybe by Christmas...lol.

Welcome to the forum.

When you get done reading the manual-
re-read the manual;
read it again holding the camera;
then go experiment.

That’s the plan! The tiny print in the tiny book (2” thick but 6”long) is ridiculous. Going to pull down the internet version. Thanks for the reply!

Yes, the PDF version is very handy. I keep a copy on my desktop and travel laptop, over 525 pages, and it's an eight year old camera.

The D500 is only two years old. What camera are you referring to that is 8 yrs old? Just curious.

My Canon T1i is eight years old. My Sony H1 is twelve years old.
(My truck was 20 years old (in great condition) when I gave it to one of my kids; and my phone is a Galaxy S-III. )

There are some great you tube videos on the D500 by forum member Steve Perry, check them out!

Aloha StanPerry and welcome to UHH. It's a great idea to download the manual. Easier to read and less strain on the eyes. I keep a copy of all my digital manuals on my traveling laptop. You'll love your D500 and as you read your manual you might want to go out and try some of the different ways it guides you. I've always found, for me, is to try as I read the manual. Makes for more fun and enjoyment.

Magic Lantern publishes a book for most cameras that is a better read than the manufacturer's small print
