JJS - I second this comment. All the images are wonderful in color and focus, but each seem like they could have been just a bit more space to present the entire bird. You might revisit how you've cropped the original or look at changing how you frame the image during capture. You might experiment too at a slower shutter and lower ISO. The first bluejay reports f/8 with ISO-1000 and shutter 1/1000. I think you could have captured the same sharp result around 1/500 with ISO cut in half as well.
b JJS /b - I second this comment. All the images... (show quote)

Thanks for your comments. Agree I zoomed in a little too tight. Also, I was set up for capturing possible BIF (no luck) and forgot to dial back a bit. They came out of the camera a little noisy but cleaned up pretty well in Lightroom, I think.

Excellent set.

Thanks, Angler. In fact, thanks to all who took the time to look and comment. I think the goal for most of us is to learn and get better. You all certainly have helped. Most gratifying.

So far so good. It's kind of slow so it's definitely a daylight lens. Upside is it's not too heavy and easy to hand hold. Very quick focus and very sharp. If you haven't already, watch the Dustin Abbot reviews on you tube. That's what sold me.

I joined this forum a while back and follow it regularly. Until now I have been a silent observer and have learned a lot from the many talented people who participate. Thought it was time to post a few of my own. I took these bird pictures the other day with my Canon 80d and brand new Tamron 100-400. Constructive comments would really be appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Very nice JJS,

As others have echoed before me, leave a little more room and then you have more liberty to crop if need be. Some really good images, just a little more room.
