LR not handling new LG UHD 4k monitor well

Where do I go to find help in resolving this problem? The display cable on my laptop died so I bought a 24" monitor, which works well with the laptop's Intel HD 4600. except in Light Room export (and sometimes during app loading.) During the export process, windows flash on & off, the app threatens to crash altogether. After a few minutes all settles down & I can finish the export. But it's a very worrisome process. Btw, there is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M graphics accelerator, but unchecking it seems not to make any difference. Photoshop save is fine.

I would (First) try Adobe suppors and ten I would try LG support. Before you do that, make sure that your drivers (especially NVIDIA) are the latest and most current non-beta drivers available.

Which version of LR are you using? If you are using the CC version, Adobe will automatically upgrade LR, Photoshop and Bridge in short order as new hardware equipment comes to market. For non-subscription LR, you may have a wait or be on your own.

ah, yes, i was so focused on hardware -- I'm using Classic CC. The monitor is an older one, 24" at a bargain price, since 27" & bigger seems to be the direction buyers are heading. So I'm assuming Adobe has taken it into testing consideration. I suspect the problem lies in the UHD-HD conversation. It may be early generation HD & is conflicting with UHD & Adobe is assuming the hardware is copacetic. I'm hoping for a LR working solution, other than buying a whole new setup.

Replace the external cable; the majority of connection difficulties can be traced to level 1 hardware problems. Have you, in Windows, turned off your internal display with the Function key combination (don't remember which one, too lazy to pull laptop out). Are you attempting to display more colors and resolution than the 24" monitor can handle? How much RAM in the system and how much free space on the HD?

I'm confused. Are you using Intel's embedded GPU (HD4600) or does you computer have an Nvidia GTX850M and are you using that? Is it possible you have both enabled, as Rgrenader suggested?

my laptop has both the intel HD & the NVIDIA GTX installed. Just how the laptop uses the 2 is outside my knowledge base and how adobe uses them on top of my laptop's usage is hyper space outside for me. I tried unclicking the NVIDIA in LR & that seemed not to make any difference. I was away most of yesterday so I haven't gone through everyone's suggestions, but I did post to the Adobe LR forum and send a msg to LG (finding problems on a weekend is, um, problematic ;-) I will slowly make my way through suggestions & such today. (I took maybe 200 pix yesterday at an event that I need also to work through, but will use DxO for initial processing.)

thanks everyone!

Make sure all your video drivers are up to date. If you need help you can contact Adobe via a chat and get help. They took control of my computer on the last big Adobe update and I watched as they updated my video drivers and bada bing, done and done. Works like a charm now.

jeep_daddy, i'll try this route -- i haven't gotten any response form the forum posting. and intel claims they aren't responsible for the driver, but asus claims it's up to date. arrgg! this morning i saw flashing windows & dialog boxes from windows level, too. (but with a reboot, all has been mostly stable.) i'm beginning to wonder if there is a graphics card speed difference, even though intel claims this card supports the same hdmi (2.0) as the monitor.

thanks brucewells, and all! this has been quite a journey of geekie learning. But I think I'm at the end, i.e., resolution point. The problem seems to have been that the monitor does 10 bit UHD & the graphics card(s) only 8 bit. There is no way to update them to 10 bit. But having stumbled onto the monitor setting where I could choose 8 or 'deep color' 10-bit, I set it to 8 bit & now LR seems happy. Now I can work in ease, and have time to determine what future hardware combo I can afford to piece together to get a cool 10 bit. I also know a bit about HDMI vs displayport cables. Btw, I gather Photshop knows about 10-bit, LR doesn't. Maybe by the time I have the full set of hardware, LR will have caught up.

again thanks for all the suggestions! charlotte
