If cost is not a consideration.....RRS, Gitzo, Manfrotto are wonderful. I will never again buy a Lever Lock style and they can/will be damaged at some point in travel (especially airline travel). I will only buy twist lock and I will "ONLY" purchase Carbon Fiber not only it is light weight but will not corrode in Salt Water (yes the head will corrode if Aluminum, rinse it off with fresh water in the shower).
For once or twice a month use you might consider purchasing a Feisol CT-3472 http://www.feisol.net/feisol-tripod-ct-3472.html

Lots of bashing flip-lock legs here. But I've found that the twist-locks want to attract grit and then they are ruined.
My next tripod will probably be the ProMedia that goes up as tall as I am (6') without a center collum but I'll examine the leg locks first.

I prefer the snap locks on all my tripods and they last for ever the twist locks alway fail on all the tripods I had the worst of the bunch was the Manfrotto failed twice with in the first two years so I purchased a off brand from a big name camera store in L.A. with snap clamps then I gave it away to a friend That was fifteen years ago. Now I use Benro & Induro CF tripods with snap clamps no problems what so ever.

I own 2 Gitzos. One small, and one large, with Wimberley head. Excellent investment! As a wise pro once told me: In photography, buy the best you can afford!

I purchased a Zomei carbon fiber tripod on Amazom for $129.00 Model Z699C. It does everything I need it to do. I did not have to spend a small fortune on a good tripod. Actually I liked it so well, I have one for my Nikon D5300 and for my D7200. Put your money into lens. Alot more payback

The key here might just be Manfrotto. The flip locks on my Manfrotto were cheaply made out of cast material. Busted off pieces with light use. Now I swear by twist locks...but to each his own.

I don’t care for Manfrotto tripods for me there over rated you can get better quality tripods from Benro and Induro as well as few others. This of course is just my opinion don’t take it personally LRF have a great day!

Look into Feisol. I am constantly impressed with my 3472LV. Twist lock legs may actually be faster once you have some experience using them.
