Anyone have any experience/opinion with this lens?
I have this lens. It is an awesome lens, I was able to handhold to get some images of high school sports and some birds. It is not as heavy as some of the other telephoto lenses.
Great lens at a high price!

Yes.....I have had one for a few months and use it with my A7rII and A7rIII. I am very happy with the lens/body performance and really don't have any negative comments at all. Auto focus works well with both bodies and IQ is superb. Most of my use with this lens is with the Sony 1.4 converter which doesn't seem to slow down the auto focus much and IQ is still extremely good. The majority of my work with this set-up has been hand held-held and wide apertures. In my experience this lens/converter combination produces sharp images throughout the focal length range. When used with the 42 megapixel body I can crop extensively in PP with good sharp results. I have actually been very surprised it works so well with the converter.
I also have an A6000 body and have found that auto focus does not work well with that body and lens combination.....tends to hunt quite a bit and sometimes will not lock focus at all. However, I have to say I have not tried using the A6000 and 100-400 lens without the 1.4 converter attached, so it is possible auto focus would work ok in that case.

Thanks for the post and endorsement. I've migrated to Sony but still use my Canon 100-400mm L lens with Sigma MC-11 converter. Works well enough for now. Heading down the path of selling my Canon L glass for native Sony. Appreciate the thoughts on this lens.
I had it for about a month. I was using it with a polarizing lens at very fast speeds (1/1600, etc) out on the beach and found shots would come out under exposed earlier in the morning or later in the day (from 4 p.m. on) especially if the sun was behind the clouds. At 400mm the aperture is 5.6 & combined with the filter shots were being ruined. However, in the right situations it's a great lens.
Thanks everyone. I'm going to rent one for a week. I'll report back.

It works very well on the a6500. The issue with the a6000 May be that it lacks phase detect AF.
