after 50 years of photography i have decided to start to edit my photos using some of post production , i bought Lightroom paying monthly enrollments of $9.9 with Adobe , and now i wish to know which are the laptop requirements to use this program .
I have a laptop Apple Pro 8GB model year 2013 that, as far as i know, doesn't support this program and cannot be updated, now i'm using a iMAC 27inches year 2013 8GB and Apple center said it can not be increased with additional ram memories since it hasn't the integrated slot for DVD .
AS you can read i'm really ignorant on this matter , pls help me
with many regards

Have your IMac 27 upgraded to 16GB and you will be fine. You can also upgrade the Apple MacBook Pro to 16GB and you will be fine.

This is true. I have a 2012 MacBook Air with 8GB RAM (which CANNOT be upgraded) and Lightroom CC Classic and Lightroom CC work just fine.

According what you are saying i can upgrade both my units to 16GB , that's fine but apple center personnel said no way to do it
thanks so much it is very interesting
I found that 8 G is the bare minimum for running LR/PS - 16 G is much better. Having said that you can just go ahead with what you have and see how it works. I know all about not being able to add more Ram to an Apple computer- been there done that. However the newer 27 inch iMacs will let you add more Ram later on.
Gain- I'm a long time LR & PS user (Stand alone - I have not gone to CC yet) but I'm having to face the same issues. I have an older 27" iMac but my unit was configurable to the higher RAM when I bought it. The problem I'm running into is not the RAM but the operating system updates that Apple keeps rolling out. With every roll out my programs are starting to become obsolete and incompatible. I'm nervous that if I update to the latest operating system I'm going to loose functionality of many of my programs and slow down my computers performance as well. I'm pretty sure if I upgraded I'd loose the ability to use both my Lightroom and Photoshop programs. I can't even use my Sekonic Light Meters program at the moment. My beef is that my iMac is in perfect condition but has been made obsolete by Apple's non stop updates that are built to support new architecture in new units - not the old units. I have no choice but to buy a new iMac at this point. Maybe I can use the old one as a second monitor???

Please visit
www.macsales.com and look up the possible upgrades for your computers. OWC is the most respected Mac upgrade source in the industry, since 1988. They probably have memory upgrades, conventional hard drive upgrades, and SSD upgrades for your computers, along with very detailed videos showing exactly how to install them, and the tools needed to do so.
You will need to first start your Mac, go to the Apple Menu, choose About This Mac, and run the System Report (from a button in the middle of the dialog that appears). Select Hardware, and view the Hardware Overview. The second line contains the all-important MODEL IDENTIFIER. You will need this number to select components for upgrades at OWC. Look a few lines down and note the PROCESSOR SPEED, too. You need it, as well.
I'm pretty sure your iMac can be upgraded to at least 16GB RAM, probably 32GB. The hard drive probably can be upgraded many different ways, up to 8TB internal! But you will need your Model Identifier and Processor Speed handy to narrow down the exact possibilities.
The process is the same for the MacBook Pro.

It looks like the Apple personnel are correct. You cannot add memory to the 2013 21.5"
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Apple/imac-%2821*5-inch%2C-late-2013%29-imac14%2C1You can add it to the 27", though.
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Apple/imac-%2827-inch%2C-late-2013%29-imac14%2C2I almost positive I ran LR on my 21.5" before I upgraded the memory from the standard 8GB. Adding memory - when possible - is very easy.

I'm guessing what they meant was, "It is not user-serviceable". I'm fairly sure if you take it to an authorized computer technician....the original ram chip (8GB) can be replaced with the 16GB chip.

I guess you found out after the fact what the system requirements were. You need to find an operating system Win or Mac that Adobe will run on. Get at least 16 gig of memory and make sure the architecture will let you go to 32. 16 is fine for now but as photo Mpixs keep growing more and more memory will be needed to run.

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro with 8gb of memory and have no problem using LR, PS or the two or three other programs that manipulate pictures.

If you do simple editing, you may be able to get away with 8 gb ram. I am not certain, but I am pretty sure your computers do not have discrete graphics cards, in which case the graphics processor shares system memory with the operating system and any software you may have open, as well as the files you are working on.
I know this is an Apple thread, but there are other options than upgrading a 5 yr old machine to the barest minimum in ram, and still need to deal with a slower processor and other "age" related issues.
