Clearly he's under the influence of the Martian's Plutonium Joy Juice. Fortunately, you're not, or you wouldn't have captured such a beautiful photo! Great job!

This little guy dropped in yesterday, and he didn't seem too skittish when I came out with the camera.

My book "Birds of Canada" didn't help, nor did a "Google" search for images of "yellow bird with red head". Even Cornell couldn't help.

The crest on his head looks like a bit of a Cardinal family, but they don't show up too often up North.

My Sister in Law is putting it to canvas, and will be asking around also. I hope to ID him soon......

Great shot. Have never seen such a bird in person or a book. Maybe mom had an affair or someone has reworked the photo but it is not April 1st. Excited to see the comments

It appears to be a leucistic cardinal. Leucism, or leukism, is an abnormal plumage condition caused by a genetic mutation that prevents pigment, particularly melanin, from being properly deposited on a bird's feathers. Fairly rare, but happens occasionally.

The bird appears to be a Summer Tanager in the process of converting to breeding plumage. The birds are normally native to the southern US (the old CSA). Birds to wander however. Last Summer I saw several Black Hawks in western PA

Scarlet Tanger I believe- either molting or juvenile - had one like that in Sarasota a few years ago. One similar this year.

A stunning shot! It does look like the 1st Spring Tanager examples, but it has a dark band on the tip of the tail that we don't see on the examples.
