I didn't have any problem with the background. It was almost perfectly flat and really nice to work with.

I simply loaded your image into Lightroom, hit Auto and Cropped it the way I wanted it. I saved it as a TIF file and did a Masked Stretch in PixInsight. I got the attached result.

From here I loaded it into Photoshop for a white balance and an attempt to pull more of the galaxy's arms out of the background.

How do you do the masked stretch in PI, that seems to be the key to the background.

I've attached a screen shot showing my PixInsight's ABE and MStretch settings.

I've also attached ATIK Color Processing.xosm which is my PixInsight startup script.

Thanks Sonny, 1 more try. Heading to the desert next weekend, it'll be nice to get rid of my red blotchy background, or at least I hope.

You're probably already gone, but remember how to find Polaris using the Big Dipper.
Because the amount of stars is overwhelming.
Good luck and have fun!

Nope next weekend, and yes, when I first started, I had to start early enough that the only things showing were the planets. The green laser was also a lifesaver. I was lost looking thru a finderscope.

Good, then you've got a handle on it.
When I get away from terra Familiure, I have to find my anchor, Polaris, then I can run.
And that is very close to the New Moon!

Clear, Dark Skies!

Yes, planned around the moon. I tried to get to darker skies so I could see what really dark looks like. This is dark green, getting close to blue. I couldn’t find much in the darker areas, other than camping. But I’m going for 8 days, so kinda need electricity.

It should be good and I’ll take a drive out to the darker areas so I can experience it. I would like to try convict lake, but it gets pretty pricey. I have my daughter, her husband and 3 grandchildren come in September, so hoping for a 2 camping trip to Monolake. (Just what kids from Ohio wanted to do in California, go camping 😂😂😂)

More apt to want to go to Dizzyland, Magic Muffon, Notz a berry farm, Universal stugieos...
You know, all the expen$ive $tuff there is to do here.

Hope you have fun poking around the desert out there. Carry plenty of water and food on any excursions.
2 flat tires and you're a long way from Kansas, Toto.

When at Joshua Tree in 2015, there was no cell service at all, for example.
I remember my young and reckless ways playing in the wildernesses.

Thanks Craig, still playing around, bwana (Brian) suggested using Pix Insights Background Extraction, seemed to help a lot with the light pollution issues I have.
