I just bought a Sony a6300, close relative of the a6000. My purpose was a light, compact camera system for travel, so a full complement of lenses isn't really a priority at this point. I did spring for the expensive Sony 16-70 f/4 lens to match the very useful 24-105 lens I use on my full-frame Canon. I'm just getting started, but the form factor and weight are a significant change from the Canon. My first big trip is coming up in a couple of weeks and that will be the chance to test whether the smaller, mirrorless APS-C camera is more fun, yet still with satisfactory images. I'm optimistic! The kit 16-50 has been OK for snapshots around home, but I haven't really tested it in a demanding situation nor considered a large print yet.

Hey, I have an A6000 and a 10-18mm zoom. Love how the pair operates together. Go to your settings to cut down on possible
"barrel distortion" if use in 10mm mode. I usually shoot in 12-14mm. The lens will cost more than the camera but is a good comdo
when using a good tripod while shooting. I also have a 18-200 zoom but do not use it as much, but that will change in the future.

Be very careful... I started with the Sony A6000 and a few lenses when it first came out... since then I progressively added an A6300, A7II, A7RIII and dozen or so lenses. Although I am also heavily invested in Nikon gear, I find myself going to the Sony stuff much more frequently. The Zeiss and Sony/Zeiss lenses will spoil you but then again I just picked up a Sigma 16mm f1.4 APC that is a wonderful performer. I've stayed away from the larger 2.8 Sony Zooms as I already have the Nikon versions. I've also used my Nikon 300mm f4D and Nikon 200mm f4D Micro lenses with a simple adapter in Manual focus and have been pleased with the result, however, the full feature adapters for Nikon seemingly have not worked as well as the their Canon counterparts. The Sony gear can become very addictive and may cause a little stress over what to do with your other systems once you take the step over to the dark side.

There's one last thing I'd like to include in my comments here. I did a "quick and dirty" unplanned and unperfected demonstration of the difference in the outcome of using my 400mm lens on my a6500 using a 1/4x teleconverter, adding a 2x Clear Image Zoom shot and then decided to make a thread out of it for posting on uhh. Image quality could be much better but then image quality wasn't the purpose for the test. The purpose of the test was to compare the view when using each of the foregoing listed equipment plus Sony's Clear Image Zoom. You can find the thread at http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-512458-1.html

Hey, pardon me, are you referring Sony Alpha series cameras as the Dark Side. Kinda like Lays Potato chips where you can't eat just "1".
With an Alpha Camera, you can't take just "1" photo or am I completely bonkers? Thanks

Hello out there, is there any talk among the folks who shoot with the A6000 series cameras (6300, 6500 included) about a possible update
to the A6500? I would like to see an Alpha 6xxx or 7xxx that has a 36mp sensor but has the same physical and shooting char. of the 6500.
I believe Lecia has a camera that meets that criteria but in the 4-5k$ range.

Yes to the Dark Side but no to just "1" photo... should be not just "1" camera... I drug out my D810 and one of my D500's the other night and took some moon photos through an 80-400mm f4.5-5.6 G lens. The moon was very bright and it took me a few trial and error photos to get the exposure dialed in and all the time I was thinking how much easier it would have been to use my Sony A7RIII. Unfortunately I do no have an 80-400mm native Sony lens yet. I even went so far as to make a comprehensive list of all my Nikon gear with the thought of finding how much it was worth to KEH or others which would allow me to add an A7III and A6500 to my inventory of Sony gear along with most of the native lenses I want. I've been a Nikon guy back to the early 70's and have a very emotional attachment to my Nikon gear which I have kept current, however, it may be time to reinvest. I also have to be very careful not to allow my Nikon list to get into my wife's hands. I'm sure there will be many DSLR entrenched Hogger's on here that will think I'm crazy and that's OK... I can accept that I'm a 72 year old with OCD that still rides HD Motorcycles.

You guys are funny. This site started out with a question about Sony a6000 for $699.00 and like the old kids birthday party game "Telegraph" now we are talking about $5000.00 Lecias.
Comments well taken even those that are a little. off track.

I just bought one a few weeks ago and love it. I'm stepping up from point and shoot, so just learning my way around. But, it was very usable right out of the box, is pretty easy to learn my way around it, and works like a charm. I love that it's smaller and lighter than the DSLR's. Experimenting phase right now, but my pictures are turning out pretty well for a complete amateur. Going to the mountains today - hope to get a few nice shots.

There are always a lot of rumors going around about the next version of every camera, but I doubt that we will see a 36mp A6xxx. That would be too many pixels for an APS-C sensor. We may see a new A6xxx with an improved sensor and some of the whiz bang of the 3rd generation A7xxx like bigger battery , dual slot etc, faster burst speed, better eye focus tracking etc but trying to put too much in will only take away from the size and weight advantage of the A6xxx. Or you may see an 'S' version with less pixels, higher ISO performance and fully articulated screen which would be a killer for video and for maybe astro with something like the Rokinon 12mm f2.0.

I would prefer to see Sony develop more 'G' or even a 'GM' level lightweight APS-C lenses for the A6xxx series.

One thing you can be sure of is that Sony will keep pushing the technology envelope.

Just a few thought on what I am reading here. The quality of the a6000 (6300 6500) series will hold up to
the Canon and Nikons. Canon has good color science and their camera a long with Nikons are
the workhorses for press etc and pro studios. I think the small mirrorless format and the
Sony color (which I like and can be adjusted to taste) make the big bodies seem better.
The gentlemen with he 10 to 18 and an 6500 is the go to rig for the great asian video shooter who
had done the Singapore official tourist film etc. He shoots with the a7s II and a few Sony lenses.
I just produced a running festival with 10 races in northeast beach towns. I had a Sony XDcam
and my RX10 III bridge camera. the camcorder PXW X70 did most of the shots but the
bridge camera shoot 24 to 600 sharp I was able to isolate runners others out of focus on a boardwalk in
the distance from other runners near the finish line with RX10 III hand held. Good luck you can't go wrong.
