Hello and what about the T3, T5, or T6
Hi all,
I've been reading off and on for a while, but never signed up to post anything. I started taking pictures back in 1975 using a Canon Ftb, which I lost in Turkey, followed up with an A-1, and now have Canon Digital. I'm hoping to upgrade to a T3, T5, or T6 on KEH Camera. They have used bodies for sale and I don't need any new lenses since both of my lenses are compatible EFS.
Any thoughts on which one? I'm assuming the higher the number, the better. But how much improvement is a T3 over what I have? The costs listed are:
T3 $149 to $248
T5 $228 to $299.
T6 $238... to $299.
For the T series, higher number is newer, probably better.
What Canon digital do you have now?
One of the earlier numbers had a problem, not sure which one though. I'd probably go with the T6.
Assuming you can afford all three, I'd use the following hierarchy of considerations:
1. From KEH, pick EX or EX+ specimens.
2. Select the largest sensor and newest processor. That would be the T6 as follows:
T3 - 12MP / DIGIC-4
T5 - 18MP / DIGIC-4
T6 - 18MP / DIGIC-4+
The Canon Digital I have was the second generation digital Rebel. I got it in 2003, so it was new on the scene of digital cameras.

I entirely agree. The keys to a digital Camera Body are the sensor (size and resolution) and the software. Look to see what the T6i is selling for, I believe it is improved over the vanilla T6 but check the MP's and the DIGIC level. Also if possible, maybe see what's available in a T7. I believe Canon USA is having a refurbished sale with extra savings. Keep to your budget, but if there's a little extra room, try for the T7 or T7i refurbs from Canon USA. .
Certainly of the choices available I'd choose the T6 for $50 more.
Feel confident with your purchases from KEH. They offer a 14 day return and a 6 month Warranty.
Thanks all. That is helpful.
btw - the body will most likely come without a neck strap. I'm 0 for 2 for used bodies from KEH with neck straps. Reuse one from your older camera, buy a 3rd party part from an online seller, or shop for the genuine item from ebay.
Check out the Canon USA web site - Refurbished Cameras. Today - Canon T6 with 18-55mm EFS is $269.
This is what I bought as a learning camera 10 months ago.
T6i - 24.2 MP - swivel touch screen (body) $450
T6s - 24.2 MP - swivel touch screen, digic 6 processor (body) $499
I am enjoying the T6, but a swivel touch screen & more MP is in my future. Probably a 77D or 80D.
I think I can only afford a T6, the vanilla one. Considering what I'm using now, this should be a drastic improvement.

It may be a big improvement, but if you can stretch to an
i model it would be good. The T3,T5. T6, etc are typically four years behind the
i models.
Yes the Tx without the 'i' or 's' following are the bottom of the line beginner and usually have the tech/sensor of the last model.
But as you stated it is a jump up from what you have now.
The newer Canon Rebel Series are all great. The models you mentioned are all crop sensors, not crap, just that there are different perspectives with 1.6 Find a budget for the lenses, not so much the body. I carry a 6d and T5i. Enjoy and shoot daily.

I upgraded to the t6i and am quite pleased with it.
Main improvement in t6i is touch screen and up to 24 Mp.
T6 is 18 Mp and no touch screen.

I have the T6 and I love it. Very easy to use, and it takes great photos. Awesome picture of the bridge.
