Stunning color and detail. I just love them. We used to have a gray fox that lived out in the woods close to us. Became fairly tame. And like you, we watched her bring her kits out to play. Then one year, we believe her mate was run over. Shortly after that she moved away, I guess, in search of another mate. I surely do miss seeing her face everyday to feed her. Never have seen a red fox around here (Arkansas), but, I believe they do live here.

OK.. My last post on the foxes.
Shot through my kitchen window with the Hood pressed against the glass to act as a tripod so I could slow the shutter at
600mm. Some debate among the fam as to whether the mom or the dad....settled in the 2nd pic...
Fantastic images!!!!
Looks like this fox is accustomed to you, I'M sure she can see you at the window.
Love your captures of these beautiful animals.
A beautiful set, nicely done and would love to see some more follow-ups!

..dont encourage me !
(Ok. Go ahead and encourage me ... :-)
If I get something interesting I will post it in this thread so you wont miss it... I have about 40 more now but they are variants of these.
The sharpness at 600mm and high ISO / low light is mediocre so would love to get some of these in better light...

crazydaddio,
You have been given an incredibly rare opportunity. Foxes are a very secretive breed. To have them in the wild, right outside your kitchen window, even at 600 mm is very rare indeed. I hope you used up an entire 120gb sandisc to record them. The images you posted are excellent.

She can see me. Its a 3 panel sliding door. If I move too quick she will bolt. She doesnt see me when I move slowly into postion. I press the hood of the 150-600 against the glass to I can lower the shutter speed. When i fire the shutter, it transfers the sound to the glass and she hears it. Then I get the staredown :-)
I would say she is just starting to get comfortable.

Took about 400shots during a 15min view.
Wished the sun was out so I could get to F10, low ISO but did what I could. If the sun was out, I could go with the 70D and get 900mm effective with a higher shutter speed and not need to crop so much.....losing detail.
Pretty happy with the results I did get... but need Regis's 2xiii tele with the 400mm F4 lens :-)
...need to shoot 4 more weddings to get the $8000 needed for that setup....

How fortunate is that? To be able to get these shots from the comfort of your home, through a window.
Very nice indeed.
