Sony has a menu setting for noise reduction and when it is on the camera will take several second to process the pic info to create that image.

Shouldn't NR processing be applied to images in the buffer?? I would expect that to slow the camera down only when the buffer is full.

I would like to thank all for the replies... I feel like an idiot in that I had it set to single shot. That would tend to limit things a bit...

I have the new Sony A7iii and am learning more about it each day. At present, I have a card in both slots. I save to both jpeg and raw.
When I take a picture, there is a wait of a second or two before the camera permits me to take another picture. Is this due to the speed of the SD cards I am using or is there something else I should do/change. Holding down the shutter button to take multiple images quickly is just not possible now.
Thanks,
Ron

You may want to take a look at your auto review setting. I keep the setting turned off on my A7II and A7RIII.

That is what I figured on my night shots. I really isn't much of a problem since stars don't move very fast. Sure beats the heck out of long exposure color shift and reciprocity that came with using film. Sony lets me see the image much faster than the old film days or even Polaroid. With infinity higher quality.

Turn the high ISO noise reduction off. Turn down the image autoreview time setting. Be sure you have fast enough cards. Watch these:

I have the A7III and also the A7RIII and the A6500. Your issues is just a menu setting fix. After 40 years a Canon user, I switched from Canon to Sony and there is small learning curve for first time Sony users, but once you set your custom functions and buttons, you will really almost never need to use much of the menu again. These cameras do so much, just hang in there it is all worth it. Cheers

Also download the A7III help guide. it is far more helpful than the users manual, especially for first time Sony folks. here is the link to both: Copy the user guide to your smartphone and keep with you for reference, I did.

The camera is capable of long segments of burst rapid fire shots. Check this speed test of different cards:

Cheers, I am loving mine.

I am glad you solved the problem.

I am using the Lexar Professional SDXC II 64GB cards rated (almost) 300mb/s (2000x ?). Very expensive, but with almost no lag time on the a9 camera. If the A7Rm3, like the A9, uses only the first slot (1) for the faster read/write format --- what I do is take both RAW+JPEG images with the JPG going to slot 2 (slower) and the RAW going to slot 1 (faster/larger). I do not know if this is any faster than writing both RAW+JPEG to the same (slot 1) card, but I am hoping. To do this on the A9, I set the Toolbox tab, screen 5, Select Rec. Media to Slot 2 (the slow slot default for JPEG & movies), and the Recording Mode to Sort(JPEG/RAW). This writes the larger RAW image to the faster slot 1; It also grays-out the Quality (RAW&JPEG) options on screen 1 of the Camera 1 tab. I do not know if the A7Rm3 has the same menu selections. But when you are ready for slightly faster processing (though not as fast as the A9), try a faster SDXC card.
