Why would anyone choose vanilla over chocolate ice cream.

I guess it would be a difference of opinion of likes and dislikes. To each their own.

To many artists, 'form' is king. Color distracts from appreciating form, substituting immediate gratification for a longer term, supposedly deeper level of involvement with the image. It may be something you'll grow into, having asked the question.

You can't be serious. Deeper level of involvement with the image? What are you smoking? It's a picture. Not the cure for cancer. Unbelievable.

Not sure of your point, but although I love chocolate ice cream I love vanilla even more.

What an answer. So you don't know either.

All I can say is either you haven’t seen good B&W or you need to have your eyes checked.

He's serious and he's not smoking anything, (At least I don't think so). But the opposite question seems appropriate. Are you completely detached from the deeper emotional involvement present in great images? Perhaps the answer to your lack of appreciation of well rendered B&W images is that your main photographic interest is just pretty pictures with nice colors. I hope you're able to get more out of photography than just that and understand that great photos can also tell a compelling story, and I'm not taliking about a well executed image of a bald eagle or weekend snaps of the kids' football game.

I like the two combined. The best of both worlds.

Nail me to the cross because I take a well executed image of a Bald Eagle or of a kids' football game and feel satisfied with the final results. I don't give a shit if you like my shots. How's that for a compelling story?

Wow!!! I'd bet you're a nasty drunk! Addicted to color, are ya? Very narrow minded.

I looked at your images, and there is "some" good work there. But i downloaded some of your photos and converted the to black and white.

WOW!!!

You are really missing a bet there. Some good pics and many are superb after conversion and a bit of post processing in B/W.

Try it sometime for your own edification.

I’m not sure why a topic such as this generates such angry responses as this thread seems to have so far. We’™re really just discussing differences in ways artists/photographers like to express themselves, and what different people enjoy viewing the most. There is no right or wrong here. Just personal preference.

Before I was a photographer, I painted. Oils and acrylics. Couldn’t stand (nor seem to master) watercolors. My preference for oils did not (does not) diminish my appreciation for works done in the watercolor genre. I can’™t always relate to the excitement experienced by watercolor artists, but I have to assume it is similar to what I experience when painting in oils. I don’™t get how they get enjoyment out of working in a medium where the paint runs and pools wherever the water wants it to. Then again, those artists may not relate to the joy of layering and blending thick gobs of color on a canvas. The key is, do we each enjoy that creative process, and can we appreciate the value in each other’s creations?

To repeat a thought I expressed earlier, color vs. B&W can hold different but equally valid appeals. Personally, when I work in color, it’s about the color. When I work in B&W it’s more about texture, shape , and contrast. Both are challenging in there own right. And THAT is the attraction.
