I bought one for a buck for my d5200 and it works over 50 feet away.

I purchase a Vello Wireless Shutter BossIl from B&H photo. The receiver mounts on top where the flash would go and a cord plugs into the camera. The range is 35 to 50 feet in any direction. Price ran under $50.00 on sale. Hand held remote can be set to your own personal channel, plus you can use it as a hand held timer. For more information go to www.vello.com wireless shutter boss ll.

FWIW, a feature of the Yongnuo remote release is that it can mount in the camera flash shoe and has a flash shoe of its own on top. I can mount the remote release, and then put the Yongnuo 560 flash controller on top of it to run the remote Yongnuo flashes I have on stands. (I suspect the flash shoe on top of the remote is just a pass thru from the camera, so other controllers or devices probably would work as well, but can't verify that from personal experience.)

RE: "Amazon sells a Vivitar Universal Wireless remote, with dongles for Nikon, Sony, Canon and others for $ 24.95. It's good at over 100 yards. I use one for birding, for remote camera(s) at weddings and for family selfies...."

I also have the Vivitar remote shutter release. It may be user error , but I have difficulty getting it to consistently work. Sometimes the sending unit just doesn't seem to make connections with the receiving unit. There is, on the sending unit a button which selects one of 4 little red lights and two settings on the receiving unit as I recall. My guess is that I am not using the right combination of sending and receiving buttons or that I don't have the camera firmware set properly for remote shutter. For this reason , I got an IR remote that I can operate from behind the camera by reaching around to the front of the camera where the IR can "shine" onto the cameras front mounted IR sensor. On a camera club milky way photo shoot, my IR remote was not only firing my camera , but also the cameras of those around me. My camera was being similarly triggered by their IR remotes. Many "unexpected" photos were made that night.

What camera?

Some have a sensor on the front that can be used with inexpensive remotes to take self-portraits.

Others have built in WiFi, that you might be able to control with and app on a smart phone.

There are several other possibilities.... but it really depends upon the camera.

Vello Wireless Shutter Boss ll works with every camera made. It uses a cable that plugs into the camera that comes with the unit and is setup for you camera. Just mount the receiver on top of the camera hot shoe and plug the cable into the camera. Turn the handheld on setup your own operation channel and once it is matched to the receiver you are set to go. Now you can set the camera on a tripod take night time photos, portraits or anything you want to do with your camera without pressing the button on the camera. The receiver uses a single battery and the same with the hand held. Very ease of operation. Handheld has a digital display that tells you you channel, time when you are using a timer etc. Vello has customer service or tech support if you need help with the product. Just call or email them. You will be happy with this product. I have used this product taking night time shots and works nice. No problem with this unit, very easy to use and very easy instructions to follow.

I use the Panasonic Imaging App on my iPhone to control my Lumix GH4 via WiFi.

Perhaps your camera manufacturer has something similar?

Yes I saw that but wanted to purchase it at Adorama but I don’t think they sell it there so I may have to get it at B&H

You can also try apps like
Q-DSLR DASHBOARD.
Some will operate from phones wireless...others use USB wired. On the one I listed above it controls all camera functions including live view to the computer screen. I use for astrophotography with Nikon D810.

Semi-smug reply, my 6d m2 has a phone app that does this via Bluetooth. I get to see what the camera sees even when in another room. I really enjoy the feature. Best of all. Free.

I've used Vello Wave, Pluto, Cam Ranger.
And, if you're just slightly ambitions, you can get a $25 wireless portable modem, flash the firmware, to convert it to a CamRanger work-alike. Details at
https://dslrdashboard.info/. It's an open source project, and the documentation could be better organized :(
