I am sure I have driven by this tree although I haven't been up the road in some time. Your patience has been rewarded.

I have been driving past a tree that has had a pair of Red Tail Hawks raising their young for the last five years. Late last year I finally acquired the 400mm to 800mm angle of view needed for proper shooting. This winter, one of the wind storms blew the nest out of the tree (as you know, winds in the foothills sometimes reach 90 mph). Now I have the lense, but now I have to hunt for a new subject.

Ouch! A lesson I've had to learn several times, the photo that is available today may never be available to you again. One instance in particular was side stream I saw when driving up La Plata canyon with the intent to photograph a waterfall I'd seen before. I was impatient to get to the waterfall and decided to shoot the side stream on my way back down the canyon. The photos I got of the waterfall were forgettable and the light on the side stream was gone when I got back to it. :-(

Shiver me timbers, I can feel the cold just looking at this photograph.
Well taken.

Thank you! Believe me, I felt the cold when I took that photograph!

I love this, it as exceptionally beautiful image.

I love winter photography. Unfortunately for us here in the west, winter seems to have past us by.

Thanks for sharing,
Mike

March is our big snow month so the Colorado winter isn't past us yet.

So beautiful. Where is Colorado did you take this?. I love going up to RMNP to take photos.

In Douglas County, due west of Castle Rock and south west of (the thriving urban center ;-) ) Sedalia.

A classic to depict delicate beauty. So I see that cottonwoods don't always have to be draped in yellow to be beautiful, but your photographic window is much, much narrower. Glad you caught it, and thank-you for sharing.

I lost some of my appreciation for Cottonwoods when one lost a branch that punched a hole in my bedroom ceiling at 3 AM, but they can be visually interesting trees.

Wow! That is awesome.
Stunning photo but I wouldn't want to be there now.
We had low 70's today.

It was a photo I’d previsualized years in advance of when I finally took the photograph. So, in that sense, it had been a dream for quite awhile.
