Lightroom will download them as per any other image on a hard drive. You can also use photos on a mac. Probably the same with windows photo software.

First, you need to make sure you've got iCloud activated for your photos so you are storing them there (as well as on your phone if you choose). Then you go to iCloud.com, log into it the same way you log into your phone - Apple ID plus password. Once you're in iCloud - you'll see a series of icons (just like on your phone) of the things you have chosen to store in the cloud. Choose the "Photos" icon and all your photos will be stored there. Download them to your computer (you have to select them one at a time using your (PC-Control) (MAC-Command) key and then once you've got them selected, choose download. It takes a while, but it's worth it!

Seem like such a waste of time and a trickery to make you use the cloud. My old phone used to just upload the shots to my computer and now it won't.

So where do you find this app? Haven't found one yet.

Here is a method that works well for me:

On the Iphone
-Select the photo(s) you want to transfer.
-Click the the icon that appears below as a rectangle and arrow.
-Click Icloud Photo Sharing (You don't need to have stored photos on Icloud or use Icloud Drive.)
-Click Shared Album.
-Click New Shared Album (important, if you want the photos to go to you only.)
-Type in the name the new shared album.
-Click Next.
-Type in your email address
-Click Next
-Click Post

On Your Mac
-The photo will appear in your shared photos section (in my case in Iphoto, but I assume Photos works the same way.)
-Click file
-Click import to library
-Once in the library, you can process the photo as you wish, move it to Lightroom etc.

Perhaps there is a way to have the transfer go directly from the phone to Lightroom and skip Iphoto or Photos, but not being a Lightroom user, I can't help you there.

Use AirDrop if you have an Apple Wifi router.

I use Syncios to easily transfer photos from my iPhone 6 to my PC. It’s free.

There are, of course, many ways to do this. AirDrop is fine for a few. So is emailing. So is DropBox. But if you have Thousands (or any number) to move at one time, Apple’s Image Capture app — free with every Mac — is all you need. It’s a real gem. Find it in your Applications folder, and drag it to the dock.

My earlier post explains how to use it.

The key of this article is the AnyTrans application, free download to the Mac.

My problem with emailing pictures is that I do not know what and how the ISP server diddles with the image file. If I email a raw, does it get to the destination unchanged or what. How can I know for certain.

I don't know about the Mac but it's easy to transfer the pictures from my IPhone to the PC. Simply connect it via the USB and copy the files. However putting a picture from the PC to the IPhone is a problem. I can't do that unless using Icloud or emailing the pictures.

Thank you all for the information -- obviously I've been doing it the hard way! With Image Capture, it took less than 1/2 hour to download my over 7,000 images from my phone to my external hard drive. Appreciate all you UHH'ers!

I use the Photos program and iCloud. When I take a picture with my iPhone it is automatically downloaded to my Mac. If I remember correctly the photos get transferred from phone to iCloud then to Mac when the phone and Mac are of the same wifi i.e. when I come home etc. with the phone and it has new pictures. And if I want the pictures from the MAC to be available on my iPhone, I can set it that way also. Photos isn't perfect but it works well for me for this. As far as backups, I use Time Machine to backup the entire Mac to an external drive.

Not only that going thru the internet is going to be slower and there is a chance that someone could intercept the files. I really don't like Apple in this respect.

You guys are too paranoid. Who is going to intercept the files?

If you’ve never tried the iCloud links to Macs and iPhones and iPads, you don’t know what you’re missing. The idea is to sync all your images, all the time (or just those you want), on all your devices. It’s an encrypted, secure system. It works great for family and social image sharing.

If you prefer to manage files manually, there’s Image Capture and/or Adobe Lightroom Classic CC 2018.
