I just had to switch to Xfinity and all is going pretty well. The sent me a notice today that Norton security comes with this. I have been using another (just expired). Windows Defender is now running. Is Windows Defender enough or should I download the Norton, Xfinity says is there waiting for me, or just stick with Defender? Thanks,

I have been using nothing but Defender for many years now. Works fine for me, no problems or viruses making problems on my pc that I am aware of.

I think you'll be just fine with Defender! Norton is about the worst thing one can have on a computer, I would stay away from that!

I gave up on Norton's and McAfee years ago. Both are resource hogs. There were times I literally had to stop working so they could finish scans. Since then, I've used nothing but Defender and I haven't had viruses/malware. I would just keep on trucking, without Norton's.

Norton is bloatware, and is very, very intrusive. Windows Defender is fine.

I agree. I use Defender and Malwarebytes and occasionally Spybot (make sure you get a valid copy) and keep Defender’s definitions and patches up to date. I avoid Norton like the plague. Use good practices (avoid unknown links in emails, insecure sites, etc.) keep the firewall on in Windows and your router, keep your OS up-to-date with patches, and keep both a backup and an off-site DR copy.

This really holds true, despite the tool used. Very valid point!

I don't see anyone here using Zonealarm by Check Point. I have used the free version for years and have experienced no major problems. It doesn't slow your computer down like AVG, Avast, Nortons, and McAfee. The only problem I have had is it stops a software download occasionally. I had trouble downloading Paintshop Pro from Corel's site and eventually had to turn Zonealarm off to finish the download. As soon as the download was finished I turned Zonealarm back on and installed PSP with no problem. There was no virus or malware involved.

Get a fixmestick. Its a thumbdrive nothing to put on computer. Just plug in scan and unplug when done.
