Another good place to take sunset pictures is around the Sunset Grille and Raw Bar, last place before the 7 mile bridge. It is on Knight Key (Marathon). They clam to have the best sunsets in the keys. Good place to eat, drink and see sunsets. They also have free movies, swimming pool and sand sports. Not as crowded or expensive as Key West. Try both.

If you're driving south near sunset, go someplace gulfside.

I am heading to the Galapagos Islands next week. On the return, I am going to rent a car in Miami and drive to the Keys.

I have a Nikon D5300 and plan to take my 18-300 mm. F/3.5-6.3 as well as a 35 mm. F1/8 lens. I am also investigating buying a waterproof camera. I would appreciate any tips you guys have regarding both places. I understand Key West is famous for spectacular sunsets and particularly would appreciate suggestions about photographing the sunsets.

I stopped at a hotel in key islamarada and spent a few hours of paradise swimming in Card Sound. It would be well worth the stop. Just saying.

Any where gulfside will yield beautiful sunset ops.

Oh, y'all are giving me great ideas. I so appreciate it. They're getting me excited about the trip. I went to the local, traditional camera store (Competitive Cameras) and bought the Olympus TG-5. The guy confirmed the recommendation here, or was it another thread. He said the Olympus seems to have the least trouble of the cameras in that price range, the least instances of water getting in.

Bit of envy on my part. I haven't been back for a few years. Stop at Sparky's Landing in Marathon for lunch or dinner. Tell Carolyn and Matt that Larz sent you.

Card Sound is nowhere near Islamorada.

Must have been Key Largo. It's been several decades... Anyway, it was spectacular.
