Regulations concerning Air Travel from the USA

I hope you don't mind, I have a question about regulations, government or otherwise, for people travelling by air from the USA to another country, in this case the UK.

I am hoping that maybe a few of you will have travelled abroad recently so you could answer this for me.

Is there any regulation concerning something called a Declaration Fee, sometimes called a Basic Travel Allowance? From what I have been told a person wanting to fly from USA to UK has to have in their possession a sum of money, which could be several hundred dollars and is called a Declaration Fee. I have been told it is to ensure the person has funds to support themselves when they get to the UK.

It is a while since I flew anywhere but I never experienced or heard of anything like this. I suspect it may be a scam but I would welcome any thoughts please.

I am sorry I have not been very active on the site, I am afraid my wife is very seriously ill so I am not getting out much to pursue my photography. I hope everybody has wintered ok and I look forward to seeing your images. Best wishes, Ken.

Mornin' Ken,

My wife and I traveled to South Africa this past August and have traveled internationally quite a bit prior to that including the UK and we have never heard of any "Declaration Fee' by that or any other name. You might Google "Declaration Fee" and see what it has today.

Hope that helps some.

That last word should have been "to say" not "today." I'm not sure auto spell check is much of a benefit to society.

I flew from DC to London a couple of months ago. I had about $15 with me.
And no one ever asked me if I had any money with me.

In these days of plastic who carries much cash when they travel? I know a lot of countries used to require that you either have a certain amount of cash OR a return ticket. I have never been asked when entering a country, though. If you look suspiciously derelict, though, these rules can probably be brought out just for you...

Ken: When I used to travel to Africa I had to declare on a form how much money I was taking into the country. I always declared less money than what I had. I figured I was nobodys business how much money I had

"suspiciously derelict" is the look of many of the people in today's world... :-)
