Stars begin to disk at speeds below 12 seconds for me. I have read resolution is a factor in determining minimum shutter speed. I recently posted a Milky Way shot using the npr rule which held my shutter speed to 10 seconds. I shot the attached photo with a Canon 5DSr with EF 24/1.4 @ 1.8 @ 8 seconds on a tripod. Lots of light pollution, I know, but note the nearer stars upper right of the Milky Way.

Nice photo! I think the star trails in it might be partly the lens or aperture. I always use at least 15 seconds and have never had star trails from it. I will have to look into it more.

Your were lucky the guy with the flashlight didn't blow out the night sky.

Thanks. Yeah, I actually brought out the light from the flashlight because it was so dim.

We have spent the last 5 weeks looking at houses in New Hampshire. There it is cold. Just kidding. I really like pictures like this. Great stuff.

Lol. You're right, it is not that cold. Just cold for here during March. Thank you!

Great shots, still looking for a good location around here, hard to find darkness.

Thanks. Yeah, it is hard to find dark locations.
Here is a link to a good light pollution map, it might help. https://www.lightpollutionmap.info/

First Milky Way shoot of the season!!
I shot these last week here is Pensacola. I went out to the Naval Air Station (the nearest location with the least light pollution) and spent two hours in the cold trying different exposures, techniques, and subjects.
I used a Nikon D3300, and a Tamron 16-300mm lens.
Shutter Speed: Around 20 seconds for most of them.
Aperture: F/3.5
ISO: About 1600-6400
Focal Length: Around 16-35mm

Superb
