It was suggested to me that I buy an apple computer, then install windows OS. That way I can use either windows or apple OS when I want to. Is this info correct?

My primary computer is an Asus laptop that is nearing 7 years old and even though it has the i7 chip, it is not performing well on photo processing using the free Pixel and Sony's provided Capture One program.

I am looking at purchasing a new computer and know I want a solid state drive. Nothing else is set at the moment as to lap top or desk top or brand/model.

I am 76 and on a fixed income and must remain within a top expenditure of $1300.00 at the most.

I have looked at the entry level iMac desktops and the Asus Zen AiO lap tops and desk tops. I am open to other brands as recommended.

Once the computer is set, the processing program will follow to match the UHH suggestions/recommendations.

Thank all of you that will respond and I know I will receive the info I need to make the correct purchases.

Here is a youtube video from last year about building a good photo and 4k editing desktop pc for $638. You would have to add a monitor, mouse and keyboard to that price but should be able to complete the project will within $1000 even if you have to buy it all brand new. If you have an old keyboard and mouse somewhere around your house you can probably use that.

Maybe you could imporove your current laptop. Adding memory, cleaning the ventilation, shut down unnecessary programs and processes that are clogging your processor after all those years. Transferring pics and videos and other user files to external hard drive. Even completely emtying your hard disk and reinstalling the OS and all the software you use would be an option. Note, this would only be helpful if you are using 64 bit laptop.

This is just an idea in case you may be interested. If you are not used to do stuff like this you would have to learn online how to do it or take it someone who know what to do.

I have had to use support 3 times in 5 years. All 3 were either my daughter or my mother in law who is 83 forget their password. All of my phone support has been excellent and you don’t wait for hours or have to go through 15 computer voice menus to talk to a real person. If you can’t get someone immediately they give you the choice of waiting or they will call you back. I have never waited more than 5 minutes for a callback. I have had many windows computers over the years and always had one issue or another with them. I have 3 desktops sitting on my porch waiting for the trash run. Apple also doesn’t have the virus issues that windows does. I used windows desktops, laptops etc for many years but my last laptop was an MacBook Pro and I love it. I also use Apple phones now. How many times did you have to call the manufacturer of a computer or software for issues? How long did you wait to speak to someone? Did they actually fix your problem? Have you ever had your computer locked up due to a virus or malicious software? I don’t have those problems anymore and I won’t ever go back. Oh and by the way we had to give that mother in law an iPad since she kept screwing up her laptop and I got tired of fixing it. Now we don’t have any problems and I have her password taped to the wall by the chair. Problem solved.

Glad you had a good Apple experience (and are willing to pay a premium for it). In 25 years I have never had to call Microsoft and have never had a machine infected with a virus or malicious SW. A large part of your computer experience has to do with your skill level and your “safe” computing practices. I will just add that my IPad, while convenient, is by far the buggiest and most frustrating of the 7 computers plus 2 tablets in our home. Apple makes fine (if overpriced in terms of performance) machines, but in spite of anecdotal and vociferous support by some users, they are no more reliable than a PC that costs 1/2 to 2/3s the price for equal performance (they have the same parts internally). Pick the applications you use most, and then buy the best (within your budget) platform that runs them.

Th Asus is deteriorating after 7 years of heavy use. If a computer can be lover, this one is! I am afraid to make any substantial expenditures as all parts are 7 years old and Christ had excellent advise on adding new parts to old items. I did investigate a new display and did not locate a new one and no guarantee on used.

Thank you for you thought.

Thanks for the 'HEADS UP'! And this was a mainstream brand!
