It turns out all Great Pyrenees are not pure white. The breed standard says that no more than 1/3 of the coat can be of another color, usually grey or tan.

Nice portrait. I love these dogs.

A couple of years ago, I had a couple of these attack my car when I wandered too close to their sheep. These are magnificent, gentle and fearless animals. One of my favorite breeds.

I am not against dogs, can't say I love them, and think people "love dogs because they are subordinate ." Not sure if it is the person or the dog that is subordinate. As demonstrated by cheech & chong [ as dogs named Ralph and Herbie]**, dogs have a fascination for sniffing anuses. This fixation can be cured by using a bidet and washing fecal mater from ones behind rather than being a good christian and smearing it. Never do cats do such; nor do cats lose their mind when traveling in pacts.

Fido who "would never do any thing bad" will revert when in a mob and bring down some one and kill and eat them... free roaming in the country... protected by foolish laws as in Argentina, become dangerous but avoid the sound of a snapping hand held stun gun. In Australia I went into a wooded fenced area the gate said "Keep Closed Dingo Area" ... I did not realize that they are in packs like wolves and tho not a risk, humm yes?? humm, to adults they will relish the meal of a child up to about 10 years old. Meryl Streep 1988 movie A Cry in the Dark; "The Dingo ate me baby."

To me the striking thing about this photo is Bob's ability to blend the background to become part of the subject and do it skillfully. Bob has done this same trick in other photos and it is consistent with excellent post processing. As usual Bob, you do excellent work and provide us with an excellent visual meal, consistent with my philosophy of displaying one best photo [unless demoing something.}

This photo shows the calm, appraising, side of a Pyrenees’ personality. Good job!

I lost my first Great Pyrenees last summer at 11 years old to bone cancer. We though we wouldn’t get another dog but the house seemed empty without him so we picked out a Pyrenees puppy. He’s almost a year old, 30” at the shoulder, and maturing into a fine dog. They’re independent and know their job, whether it be to protect a family, children, or livestock. :-)

Sorry to hear about your dog last dog. I'm hearing more and more lately that the larger breeds succumb to death much earlier than the smaller ones. I own a Shih Tzu now that seems to be pretty spry ....... I'm hoping he will be around a great deal longer. But, like you, I can't imagine a house without a dog in it.

I turned onto a dirt road the other day to shoot a great pyrenees on a hill who was guarding goats. The great pyrenees, all white, herded them up the hill "to safety" before I could get a shot. He never came back in range either. Oh yes, your shot is beautiful!

Beautiful portrait. I don't know if it was intended, but the softness of the image is what I like best.
