I'm not religious but do appreciate beautiful, peaceful places like this monastery. The sacristy is lit but the rest of the chapel has only sunlight coming through beautiful blue stained glass windows. I remember when I was a kid, my mother always had an orchid for Easter Mass ( or maybe that was Mother's day>)

This series had a very calming effect on me.

This is one of the churches in Starkenburg, MO. It is a very small community, 147 families live in the Parish and there are three churches in the area. The one above is one of the oldest. No heat and no air conditioning. In the first photo the colors on the columns are caused by stained glass windows. If you turn on the lights the color disappears. The second picture is of the sanctuary. Here is a lot of information about the Starkenburg area. It is about 10 -11 miles from Hermann, MO. It you are ever in the area it's worth the trip. http://www.historicshrine.com/History.htm This area of Missouri is a very big German Catholic community.
