Modifying BBF technique

Shooting 'Canon' handheld, with a long lens, I am quite unsteady. When using BBF and AI Servo mode, IS saves the day for me. Recently I found that by engaging the IS -PRIOR- to pressing BBF the stabilized image allows a more precise selection of the focal point. This change made it easier to isolate a bird among the branches for example.

I want to thank all the generous, knowledgeable members for this beginners photography journey that's now dangerously close to becoming an obsession. I have learned so much and at an accelerated pace, its incredible yet the path untraveled is very long.

Sounds really good! Can you describe the procedure? Is it just half-way depressing the shutter button prior to BBF? Or is there more to it?

Thanks for this valuable tip ! .....

Using a facial stabilizer and a bodypod or monopod will also help with your AF and compositional accuracies.

Just 1/2 pressing the shutter starts IS giving a stable image to select focus point. Sometime you have to initially prefocus to get a better view.

Of course, but for the other times this helps me.
